DAMN, Gas - sorry to hear the news!

Good thing you had the riding experience to minimize the damage - imagine how much worse it could have been for an amateur rider.

It's a real drag to see your bike so bunged up, since we all know what a labor of love it's been for you. It'll be interesting to see how the insurance assessment works out - I hope they have someone who knows the value of these machines. They'll have to look really close to find any subtle issues like a twisted frame, or slightly bent wheels.

Good luck, dude - you know there's lotsa support here for your rebuild, if you keep us in the loop.

Sul...it's been the same here. Lots of folks going down lately. Just last Thursday a co-worker's husband got hit by a red light runner and lost his left leg 6" down from his knee. Off course the driver didn't have any insurance and was just written 3 tickets then sent off. Bullshit. Now I got the spooks again & it'll take another 2 weeks to get rid of them.

Were you ejected as soon as you hit it? What was your speed? I had a small pot hole almost take me out when I was doing about 25 once. It jerked my front tire, and before I knew it I was in the other lane.

If you didn't look over the engine cases make sure you do. A while back Ray and I were talking about skid plates on old Hogs, they have saved more than one engine.

Guess I better sneak out to the Garage and start designing one :lol:

Glad you were able to walk away!

Damm potholes ... got three friends a few years ago at night one went in and took out the other two. They survived but no longer ride at night. Glad you survived man .. go see a doctor just in case! also go after the city ..

But, as you all know, if you ride enough, you will eventually hit the pavement. Just glad you aren't hurt seriously.

Glad you're not too busted up! Only thing worse is it could have been the beginning of the riding season. Good job riding it out.....keep the faith

Holy shit Gas, if ya drank more like me, and Cutter, and Bighouse, well you get the point, ya may of been loosened up enough to make her through that one. Damn, hate when I here that, these Michigan roads do suck. Think my dirt biking experience gets me through alot of these close calls. The way it's going here in Mi. with the economy and all, maybe we can all get together and go in on a bighouse down south.

Yeah Seatmaker... there was nothing I could have done other than not be there in that lane. The frame dragged accross the "ledge" of the pot hole... I was F'ed!

Thanks guys... put in the claim today... waiting on adjuster.....

Sorry about your close encounter with the pot hole but you're alive and have a bar story to tell and that's the main thing. Now you need to do it again and have your wife take "how to pics" so we know what not to do:roll: Seriously though, I'm really glad you made it out ok, the bike will be fine I'm sure also in due time. Is there any claim you can file with the Mich DOT? It's a damn shame that we pay outrages taxes for the crappy roads we get and I'm including some parts of IL also. I realize that part of it is due to the winters, road salt, heavy traffic and all, but I can't help but suspect some of the money gets diverted to unscrupulus individuals in power and their pet projects at the expense of the public, but that's just my suspicious nature. Dawg's pretty low already - not much more room for a skid plate - but I do hate it whenever I drag it across a stupid speed bump or driveway.

The skid plate didn't go below the frame rails. It attached at the front motor mounts and went between the rails to protect the motor. Looks nice under there when they are all chromed.

Hmm... I was visualizing a plate bridging the frame rails, to protect them, too.

I remember following a kid on a Honda 50 as he crossed some railroad tracks - the oil drain plug caught on the first rail as he bounced across, and ripped it right out of the bottom. That was our first lesson on the value of a skid plate.

Yeah it will be ok as long as everything goes well with the insurance company and all. The dog will come back sweeter than before...
