Recently got a 2006 K9. I'm the one that posted "pulling the trigger" post. Well, picked up the dog from the shipper about 8 miles from home. Ran great on the way home. Spent the next few days polishing and checking everything since the weather was bad. Finally got a day when I was free and the weather decent. Drove it for a few miles and decided to see what it had. Was impressed as I ran through a few gears. When I let out of it she started caughing and acting like it was running out of fuel. Bumped the throttle a few times and it cleared. Rode a few more miles then got into it again. Did the same only it wouldn't clear. Was able to get back to my shop. Drained the tank, checked the screen in the petcock, dropped the carb bowl, cleaned everything. No trash to speak of. Next day she cranked good, idled good so I hit the road. Bout a mile out it started again. I stopped, she cranked fine, another half mile and did it again. Stopped, cranked fine and limped home. Any thoughts? 117, G carb, stock ignition. At work today. Get back at it tomorrow.

Check the little rubber vacum caps. One on intake one on carb. Zip tie them on.

That's a tough one. If the bike was sitting for a while, I would check your jets. Old fuel can clog jets.

So it started acting up when you cracked the throttle to fly down the rode? Riding normal it's OK?

I pulled and checked the Jets. As I stated, it will crank and idle fine. It initially ran ok until I ran it a little hard. I let off and it spit and sputtered and wanted to shut down. I stopped, cut it off and it restarted fine. Started back home and it does the same thing. If I baby it it will settle down. In my mind it's a fuel issue. I just don't get why it will run fine for a little while then start acting up. I will replace the the fuel line tomorrow along with the plugs and wires if I can find them.

Yep, met the shipper about 8 miles from my house. The weather was crappy so I just rode home. My son actually rode a few minutes the next day. No problems either time. Next time I rode it was several days later. Ran great til I got on it. Now it will act up for no reason. I'll chase the fuel then look at ignition. Got to be fuel or fire. There is a external fuel filter between the petcock and carb. It clear and looks good. I just wonder if it's causing fuel starvation. Going to leave it off when I change the fuel line

As for the fuel filter it should not be a problem. If you just rev it up {no load on motor} it's OK?

Damn sorry to hear especially since I checked it out,
Check to see if the carb vent plug is still in the carb,
I can’t remember if it still had the stock air filter or aftermarket?
If it’s an aftermarket ie spike try removing the vent plug in the carb. Also check your air filter and may want to clean it.

Paul,
Not your fault brother. Ran great on the way home. Starts and idles fine. Stock breather, looks like a K&N filter. I didn't check the vent plug. Could the ignition be going?

take it our for a run -- take starter fluid with you.
Get it to duplicate the problem
Pull over in a safe spot and rev engine -- if its still happening, spray some starter fluid around intake and see if you have a vacumm leak somewhere.

How many miles are on it? Did it sit for a while not running (last owner)
Replace the plugs -- they're cheap!

I'm sure it sat for awhile. 1100 miles. Checked the liner it's still intact, found no pieces when I drained the tank. Petcock filter was clean. I will check the intake and replace the plugs tomorrow. I didn't check the float seat but will do that in the morning. The bike was in Cali but was told it came from Texas. I'm in Ga. I pulled the jets, I think the main was a 76. Can't remember on the intermediate. Will check when I get it pulled tomorrow. Was going into the carb anyway, just wanted to ride the new toy.

I had to rejet my Chopper that came from Texas. Wouldn't run at all unless I left the enricher on.

When it's running, it runs great. Couldn't ask for more. When the Gremlins start, not so much. I figured I'd have to adjust to get the most out of it. Just got to get this issue figured out.

Toss that fuel filter and see if you get the same reaction.
