Thanks you all.....I'm looking at a 07 K9 now with chrome grips and pegs and Mean mother pipes along with level 3 paint, flames....it has 3700 miles on it. Awesome looking bike....they want 24,985.00....good deal????....and they will give me 17000 for my HD Road glide as a trade....whats ya'll think???....

I have chrome/spiked grips and they looked great until I put a lot of miles on them. Now they are wearing thin in the chrome department with the copper underlay showing and that don't win shows. I have my wins under my belt and just ride the shit out of it so the imperfections don't matter much to Me! I would assume that the anodized coating on the grips would do the same if you ride a lot, normal wear and tear. As for the hardtail, I did many years on one and after a major back injury even a softail cranked down to minimum travel is a bit more comfort than a ridgid. Take the plunge!

When I pay off my truck and bike, or the economy provides a higher level of comfort, I would like to pick up a 2006-2009 Ridgeback.

Get the bike you are comfortable with. :2thumbs:

For what it's worth!

My '07 K9 picked me, didn't get any miles on 'til after I bought it, but it just felt "right" from the first sitting, and I've never looked back. I'm a small fry puss at only 6-3, but did put on extented controls. I'm also a newbie with only ~3700 miles, but ~400 mile daze are light work on this scooter. The more I ride it, the better it gets!

Comfortable load on Alaskan roads...

Keep the 'Glide!! Hard to put that gear on a Dog when traveling and not look like a rat bike. Do you pack a significant other? I've got a few years and a lot more miles on Harleys, and will never part with my '02 softail. When I have to ride in shitty conditions, I'll always take the Harley if I have a choice. But having done the Dog in "as bad as it can get" conditions, it's easier to clean up afterwards...

Whatever, do it man, and stay tuned to the forum - best bunch on the planet.

the 06's have those TP rocker boxes....4 bolts in the heads....the true S%S motors have 6 bolts in the heads (07 and up on BDM)....what happens with the TP rocker boxes???...when do they go bad or do they???....

TP boxes started 05 and in 06. 07 and later should be S&S.

TP boxes had a problem with valve guide wear creating a ovaling in the guide. Not sure if it was a bad valve guide or a valve train geometry problem but many on here have had it. . The cams in the 05 were Comp Cams .569 lift. not sure about 06.
