On an 07 K-9 have oil leaking out from the right side drive cover where the ball and ramp and front pully is and it looks to be primary fluid. How does primary fluid get over to that side to leak. Its defantly not transmission fluid and its not motor oil. And its not leaking around the starter. Any suggestions.

thats what I'm thinking.. there must be 1 on the clutch side.. other wise the clutch push rod would stay lubed...just my thoughts...

Yep the O ring is leaking cause thats the only seal, but I would think there maybe to much oil in the primary everbody has a different opionion but you only need enuff oil to keep the chain lubed

Curious if this was ever resolved and if so what was the fix? I too have an 07 K-9 with the exact same problem and have been dealing with it for a few months now. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! Curious though... you described at the end of your post that your main shaft was warped due to the hub nut comming loose. Mine however has never came loose-checked it about a month ago and torque was good. Also replaced all seals and checked for shaft play and all was good. It looks as though my primary oil is comming across to the right side through the same area the clutch pushrod slides through the trans. Was this the same area you had your primary leak? Thanks!

Its more likely that your transmission mainshaft seal, quad seal and o-ring need to be replaced(and the spacer too) it's a common leak that can be fixed very easily. These seals are all behind the transmission pulley on the trap door.
Call BAKER and they will sell you the parts direct-PM me if you need part numbers -i'll be glad to help you out.
I doubt that it's leaking thru the clutch pushrod.

Hey Vince, looks like it is the mainshaft seal on the left side of the transmission. Drained my primary fluid and it was overfull by 1/2 qt. Drained the transmission and it was 1/2 qt low. Looks like the trans fluid was leaking into the primary and then venting throught the clutch pushrod. Thanks for the info.

Just an update for you Brian. Vince, Vince and Vince have all been banned from the forum. I was hoping to introduce him to my X-wife. They would have made 3 wonderful couples together. :loony:

I just noticed the same thing with mine. So the level in the primary comes up to the mainshaft and leaks along the clutch pushrod threw the mainshaft and out the belt drive side which causes a big mess

May also want to look at the washer behind the clutch hub nut When I pulled the outer primary and clutch basket off to replace the trans main shaft seal, I noticed not only was the little o-ring installed on the shaft damaged but the clutch hub washer was crushed pretty good. Looks like when that o-ring tore it also loosened the clutch assy taking pressure off the trans main shaft seal and allowed trans oil to leak into the primary. There was a TSB a while back that called for the o-ring seal to be removed and looks like it finally caught up to me. I've always had problems with clutch adjustment, getting the bike in neutral at a light, and creeping when stopped. Have to say it's never shifted better, no longer slams into 1st when cold, and getting into neutral is a breeze!!

Yes sir...removed the little o-ring and installed new washer. I'm pretty sure this is what caused the main seal to leak. 2K miles later and stilll no leak and cold shifting and neutral have never been easier!
