Ive have a 2008 Mastiff, being from Australia the Hot days are up to 110 F..
So im looking at buying a pair of Chrome Tube coolers that mount at the front of the frame..
The members here that do have them fitted, is there much of a drop in Engine temperatures?
They are also very expensive going by Ebay..
Cheers ..
Kevin from Adelaide, South Australia..

I've got the single oil cooler, the other is the stash tube. I couldn't tell much difference after it was installed. But it's got to help some, I don't have a oil temperature gauge on my dog.

I have dual BDM oil coolers on my K9, but right now they are covered because it is too damn cold.Maybe next week down in TX it’ll be warm enough to take the covers off and get some data.
I was thinking coolers dropped the temp by about 20 degrees. But that would vary with riding conditions, I‘d think

I have one cooler, but I've never run without it and I don't have a temp gauge.

What temp range should they be covered ?

I have never done it but I've ridden all winter as long as its up to the mid 50s.

Did you make the cover ?

A friend does leather work and made the covers foot me. I only use them in cool weather. I put them on in Sept or October, and rake them off when I’m back riding in 90 degrees or so. I truly think oil coolers are not needed in most places. They are not that helpful in stop and go traffic, either.
I cannot recall the exact source, but I read one technician who said 200-220 degrees was an optimal operating temp. It’s surprising how little data is written on that topic. I do know for sure cooler is not always better, and would suggest you consider covering your cooler when riding in the 50’s.

it's just an observation. Back in the day, did the flathead/knuckle/pan/shovel/evo NEEDa COOLER? The other is, how many bikes failed due to heat traveling to Surges, Daytona that Harley had an overheating recall, installed a cooler on the next engine family? All of a sudden one now rides in heat stroke temps, but the bike is still running, no seized piston due to coughs due to colds.

Make sense there is no need for a cooler if the heat sink can take the heat?... Pick an engine family.

I did do a search and there wasn't much Intel..
So running 2 tubes is best..
There doesn't seem to be much of a variety to pick from..
Saw only 2 on Ebay..
I like the alloy chrome versions for ease of cleaning..
Looking from Australia isn't too easy to sourse a 2 tube Cooler kit.
Would really appreciate Links where I could buy a kit..
Cheers for your Replies Guys..

I´ve got pics of the installation... I need to find them. It took me about an hour only to set up the dual Oil Coolers, just make sure you´ve got the lines and everything else you need at hand.

I have the twin tubes, one is the cooler, other one was the stash tube but now I use it for nitrous injection. Bike came with both tubes when I bought it used so I have no before/after data on oil cooling. IMO even if it's only 5°-10° of cooling, it's better than nothing. Those milled fins on the tubes provide a lot of surface area for airflow.

S&S Recommends in their 117 manual to run temps between 180-250. It's a wide range and I agree, if running in tells south of 80 degrees you'll be at the lower range with the oil cooler. I've ridden in cool weather and if it's only 60 it doesn't even get to 180 with the cooler. So you should be covering it.

I have two functioning coolers since day one on my 08' Ridgeback. No temp gauge but riding here in S Texas I figure need all the help I can get as we ride in 95-105 degrees in summer. Past threads have stated 15-20 degrees cooler as long as you keep moving air over them.

Piece of advise.... get it right the first time!!! I did scratch the down-tubes (see marks in the picture) because I placed them too low first.... To me, the best place is them to be aligned with the top of Rocker-Boxes.
