When I bought my 04 Chopper it had an oil cooler mounted to one of the front down tubes, the pressure gauge did not work, I ask the local shop that specializes on the Big Dog and they did not know how to remove the gauge. The other day I went for a 200mi ride and when got home I had oil all over the bike, I noticed not only around the oil tank but also on both valve covers, I knew it had to be spraying from somewhere to get the front one. I found oil inside the oil cooler so I removed it and went to trying to figure out where it was leaking. I managed to get it apart. It unscrews from the top.

After sliding out the cooler from the tube

I found the gauge was leaking. using a 1/2 inch wrench I just unscrewed the gauge ready for the replacement.

Thought I would share incase anybody else ever needs to take their cooler apart also.

I wouldn't go back to that shop that you said specializes in Big Dogs for any work. If you were able to figure it out, I would be working on my own bike, learning, and not let someone else miss it up.
