Removed all the raw aluminum today for polish. Not removing the motor and trans but just about everything else. Trying to decide if I want to remove controls or not.

Yeah yeah Seat you are obviously referring to my tappet bolt fuck up. Taking alot of pics along the way. Figure worst case if I can't put it back together will call a local wrench that has tools and will travel. But I think I can manage. Between all the pics Gas is posting and the service manual I should be able to get it back together this winter.

one piece i was most impressed with is the billet rear master cylinder on the forward control. cnc'd from one piece, bored for the plunger plus an air bleed hole i think. a nice part.

bagging the parts is a major plus. also the new manuals have decent pics of schematics for reinstall. should be no problem. :up: the hardest part will be polishing all that billlet!

Thats why I am removing it all. Polish polish polish, will post pics when I am done.

You have to chrome all that rick. Your nuts if you take it apart to polish everything. Everytime I break out the Wizards sure it looks better but not enough to take the bike apart! Send that shit out for chrome and be done. I have some small chores you could do around the house if you are bored. haha

Awesome Rick! Glad to see you're bagging the parts...I know I have been a baggy and label nut during my tear down.

I'm with those guys on... get that stuff chromed... I know my chrome pile will look very similar.

Get a good buffing wheel and go for it .. I love chrome but ... once it gets pitted it looks like shit and you can't fix scratches. My suggestion would be to chrome the parts least likely to be pitted or damaged during riding - my 2 cents! but I am still a chrome whore!!

I'm with the guys, chrome what's hard to polish. The rest, I'd go get a cheap bench grinder and see if you can somehow put a flitz wheel on it then you can turn it on and just go at it with the part in your hands...good luck!

After all that, I wouldn't be shy about doing the controls, too. I found it pretty straight forward, when I swapped mine for chromies - and I think they look a lot nicer chromed.

Yeah I thought about doing the chrome thing, but I decided to try the clear coat. My dad is going to polish everything for me and clear coat it. The clear coat is removeable so if it ends up looking like shit in a yaer or two I will tear it down and go chrome. It has been nice taking the bike apart. Looks complicated and intimidating at first but once you get into it it's just nuts & bolts. IK think I may even do a repaint in a few years and change the complete look of the bike. Thats why I figured i would try the clear coat now rather then chrome. If I do a repaint / frame powder coat in the future I can always chrome or anodize the aluminum then. I will let you know how it all comes out. Hopefully some of you will see the finished product this summer at ROT or Sturgis.
