I had an issue with my starter sometime back that had me stumped. Inside the solenoid there are 2 small bare wires going from the green trigger wire into the solenoid. one of these wires was broken, and the starter would only click when I pushed the start button. Mr Wright solved my problem and advised me to solder the wire back together. No problems since then Shannon is the man with the knowledge to keep us on the road.Thanks again Shannon

I've heard Wal-Mart batteries work in pinch too. I am pretty sure they will start a Big Dog if I'm not mistaken........

You can open the end of the solenoid without removing the starter. It sits on top of the starter, the end plate has 5 bolts, one in every corner. Some are bit hard to get hold... Be carefull not to slip the wrench .

Won't let me load pics for some reason...but what I did. There is a push on lug on the right side of the starter with a green wire connected to it, that is the soleniod.....my pushbutton had two wires coming out of it...I connected one wire to that lug and the other wire to the hot side of my battery.....now I just hit the run button one time....hold down the start button and hit my pushbutton.......make sure you hit the run button first or it will not engage the compression releases. Hope this helps
Who would have known? Just the other day [month] I pinched the red rubber boot cover between the battery + post and posi cable headed to the starter solenoid. Dash lights came on, but hit the starter and the lights would go out.
1. Ran a test light to posi post of the battery to frame - Lights.
2. Ran a test light to solenoid - no power to it.
3. Ran a test light to penis from brain - No light, nothing. I'll be damned!?

I want to thank everyone for the advise on why my 08 Pitbull would not crank. Special thanks to Shannon for providing instructions on what the problem was and how to fix it. Problem was poor contact on the plunger in the solenoid. Shannon said remove plunger clean the contacts , test by pushing plunger in with screwdriver to test that starter engaged before putting the cover on. All good and cranks now. Problem solved. Cant imagine having a bDM without this forum,

This is probably the most common cause of a starting issue and not discussed as much as it should be. Be aware, you'll have to clean these contacts again. I've been putting my cleaning off and it should be a regular maintenance item.
That's why it's nice to have a slam button.
JPCycles carries the "All Balls Starter Solenoid Kit for Big Twin for $24.29 Plus shipping. Check with Curtis he may have one for about the same price. I tried Curtis but his site would not bring up starter parts ???
