No Spark!!!

Alright fellas... im reaching out for some help here!! Over this winter I have installed a new dual coil set up, and I believe that I have it set up right from what a few guys here have told me. But as my luck my have it I have NO SPARK!!!.. On my bike (04 Ridge) I have the Thunder Heart Ingition and had the factory Dyna single coil. I took off the single and put 2 Dyna 3ohm coils. I followed the wire harrness and from the backbone of the frame there is One set of wires that are for the Key switch (that has a clip on it) and 2 more wires. One Red, and One Yellow. Now according to advice that I was given, I should have run the red to the front coil and mount on the inside stud. Then the yellow wire to the outside stud and then jump them to the other coil. With that done I have no spark to the plugs. I have checked the studs on the coils and both the red and the yellow are getting power when I try to start the bike. So what do you think it may be???? Plug wires are good and plugs are as well. :bang:

Looking into it a little more, wiring two 3 ohm Dyna coils in parallel (red to both and yellow to both) results in the resistance being too low. This wiring should work better for you...

Red to one of the primary posts, a jumper from the other post of that coil to the second coil, then connect the yellow wire to the other post of the second coil.

Like this...

Let me know if this works for you!! :D

PS Too bad the weather is sucking, I'd ride down and help you! :(

Are you getting 12 v to the coil when you turn on the igniton switch? Check with a volt meter to the + terminal of the coil.

Ok here is the latest. I took off all of the aftermarket stuff. As in the HID kit, the Dual coil set up and put all the factory stuff on. Still the same problem no spark. I used a volt meter and turned on the ignition and nothing, but when I tried to turn the bike over both wires to the coil were getting 12v but nothing was coming out of the coil or coils. No matter what set up I had on it. My old coil worked completely fine before I took it off as well as my plugs and wires. And the other stuff is all brand new so.... Now on my EHC I have a light on which is saying its the iginition fault. I have traced the wires and even swapped my EHC with the old one that had a bad high beam. Still samething no spark. I have doulbe and triple checked all the grounds and harrness to make sure they all have good connections. Everything seemed to be ok. So any other options fellas?

pretty sure the ign led on the ehc stays lit because of the alternate firing.

isnt there a blue wire coming from your ign module?

i would think blue to the rear neg, yellow to the front neg, red to the positive of both??????

No blue wire at all. I have 4 wires coming out of my backbone, to the coil area. Yellow, Red, Orange, Black. Black&Orange are to the switch and the Yellow&Red are to the coils.

I think someone said in a previous thread about this that Josh has a dual fire ignition. That's why he only has two wires going to the coil...

Does the '04 have a crank postion sensor? And if it does, did that part stay with the bike when you switched everything or did the new ignition module come with a new one?

I ask because if the red wire has 12V but the yellow never drops its voltage (for a split second) the coil(s) won't make any fire!

Assuming you do have a position sensor that's what would tell the ignition module when to make the switch in voltage on the yellow wire...

Dennis

PS In the '05 manual I have it says there will always be an ignition fault on the EHC because when the "RUN" command is given the coil is switching between an open and closed circuit continually...

Ok I still have the factory Thunder Heart Ignition and also the stock crank sensor. All I did was swap out the factory single coil for 2 coils.

The diagram Dennis gave you is the correct setup. Have you tried putting your old coil back on to test it? When you hit RUN you get 12v to the coils, correct?

Yes went back to all stock and still same prob. So I put all my new stuff on and am starting from scratch. Also when I turn the key on I have no power to either red or yellow wire. Now when I hit run still no power but my Ignition light comes on, and only when I hit start does the Red and Yellow wire become HOT. But they are a constant hot... a solid 12v or higher. I think they should bounce from 0-12v just as if they were firing. I don't know just a logical guess.

One thing I am going to have to check is to see if my Cam sensor for the firing order is getting 12v as well. I will have to check that tomorrow though.

I know for a fact that it is good. I have an extra on sitting around and swapped it out and got the same thing. Im leaning towards the Cam sensor being bad or having a bad conection somewhere around there.

Josh, send me a PM with your contact information and a good time to contact you. I'll try to walk you thru a few things to try.

Why not post it in this thread so others can benefit?

Considering Josh has swapped ignition modules (no fix) and has a constant 12V at the coil but still no spark, information on how a person could check their crank sensor would really fit the bill right about now... :)
