No lights on Ignition Module

My 06 K9 is not getting spark to either plug put turns over just fine. I have checked the coil and put new spark plugs in but still nothing. I installed the WirePlus kit a few months ago and did not have any issues starting it up until it sat for about a week and it won't get spark. I looked around on the forum for issues with the ignition module but I can't find one that related. When I turn the key on and press the start button I get lights on the WirePlus system put nothing out of the ignition module. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it. I looked at my crank sensor as well and it looks fine (not melted or anything).

If you have a repair manual for your year of bike you can check the crankshaft position sensor with an ohm meter. Sometimes they look just fine but are not. let me know if you dont have a manual and I will tell you how to check it.

I have the service manual but it doesn't say anything about the crankshaft position sensor. If you could tell me how to check it, that would be great. Thanks!

Jeff if you aren't getting any leds to light up when you hit the run button then I would start and check the red power wire going into the ignition module. It will be the group of wires that have a red, green, and black. The red wire is the power from the run button. Turn the key on and press the run button and see if you have power on the red wire. If no power there then you may have a problem with the circuit board in the right hand controler, a loose connection at the button, or a broken wire between the controler and the ignition module. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help RRRUFF. I just checked and I have power in the red wire with the run button on. It reads about 12.7 volts.

If ignition module light is not illuminating but you got power to the module I would say its dead.....

Maybe for a goof, check the black wire leading to the ground from the ignition module and make sure that ground is still good. As I am not sure how you routed your grounds during the WP install, but some solder all 15 ground wires together so it wouldn't be crazy if it popped loose. At least that is a free check before you spend money on a new ignition.

jeff if your bike is an efi bike then you have a crankshaft position sensor. If its a carb bike then you have a camshaft position sensor. for c p s disconnect the plug wires and unplug the crank sensor. set dmm to measure ac volts and measure across both pins of the plug. while cranking the engine, you should see ac voltage greater than 1 volt. if no voltage registers, replace the crank sensor. I have a couple more ideas fort you igf this doesn,t help. give me your phone number and a time to call you as i am in michigan and not to swift with the computer.

Hey thanks so much for the help I just followed my ground wire back and it was loose. I made a better connection and she fired right up. Really appreciate all the responses!

I wouldn't think it was the CPS if the ignition module isn't lighting up. He has power to the module it should light up with the WP prior to receiving any info from the sensor, has to be a break prior to that. That only leaves us with something is wrong with the module it self.

NICE BINGO!!!

I know a lot of people suggest ground wires, and its not always the case but it's a worthwhile and you didn't waste money on a new igntion module

Good call Eric.:2thumbs: Simple things first.

I have this same issue but it’s not a ground issue I am getting 12volts out of the run button when pushed. I rang the wire all the way down to the momentary module mine has 4 wires going to the That and 3 coming out or vise versa. I changed that still nothing. What is the chance of my MHC taking a crap after running about 5x? Wire hardness is all new.

Do you have power going into the ignition module? Most of the time I find broke wires at the plugs for the ignition module. The last one I fixed had a broke ground wire.

Remind me what we are working on. If I remember correctly, yours is a newer bike, and didn't you just replace the EHC?

08 and I just put the gen 1 rip kit on it bike ran and everything. I hit the stop button now I can’t get any power to the ignition module and this is a carb bike so the ignition wasn’t changed.
