NO EHC

Well as many of you know I am always moaning and griping about my many electrical issues! Sorry! But anyway my bike has been at a custom shop where the EHC and some of the other electrical issues are attempting to be resolved.
A Wire Plus WP 143 was purchased to control the lighting as my bike is an 03. So anyway I get a call from the mechanic that told me to stop by and see what was going on! "You won't believe what I have taken off this thing, I don't understand why they are so redundant or do any of this the way they do," is what I hear coming through my phone, lol! I said, please tell me that its all going to be OK. He laughed and said it would be!

Well I did stop by to check and there was my EHC laying on the work bench no longer attached to the bike! And much to my disbelief, he showed me, lighting, turn signals and brake lights as well as indicator lights working.

The next big thing to surprise me was that the tank was off and there was no longer a big jumble of wire's and connections there any longer! I asked where they were and he said we don't need them.

I know its premature to get excited as there is still a lot more to do! I have been plagued with so many issues, but I am trying to be optimistic and hope that this is the light at the end of the tunnel.

For all those with similar issues I will keep you updated, hopefully about it being successful! Say a prayer for my dog!:)

Yeah I wish all bikes were old school wired. You dont need 40 wires to do 1 thing but that "Technology" for ya:roll:

I am an aircraft Crew Chief USAF and talk about chasing your tail to fix a wiring problem! :bang:

If Big Dogs didnt have electrical problems then nobody would bitch:roll:

Best of luck.

You'll be fine and a happy camper. The 03 could be wired any which way and use differnt harnesses. I did this last year and haven't had a problem since.

As soon as I get the final bill Hippie I will let you know! The WP 143 module from Wire Plus was $125.00 . We are putting in a new ignition and then the labor for all this wiring. Hopefully I will still be able to eat, lol!

The only reason I can see BDM using the EHC is to protect itself from owner induced warranty claims. They have great customer service IMHO, but if someone thrashes their bike and BDM has to pay for it, that ends up costing all of us money in the long run.

It sucks, and I plan to re-wire my bike after the warranty is up, but I can understand why they do it. I just wish they did a better job of it in the beginning. But I can't complain yet, I've been lucky and haven't had any problems.

There are tons of choices out there. Wire-Plus, Thunderheart, old school wires with fuses. There is even a guy that sells a harness from Florida. You can find him on Clubchopper.com. The final cost can run anywhere from 150 to 275 for the parts and labor all depends wheather your doing iot of a shop. If a shop does it look for something like 400-700 on labor.

You're right on the button Rain! We got about 5 in parts, the wire plus module (WP 143 for $125) and the ignition also. About 4 and change in labor and as of Friday we were almost there! Just keeping my fingers crossed! Now if I can get a dependable speedo, lol, yea I know I am asking for a lot!

Tim, just wondering why you are going to re-wire on an 07 K-9 when you haven't had any trouble? While looking at forum posts (Ray did some), it was my impression that the newer ones (EHC's) were better and if you don't go fooling with the electrical system, then fairly dependable and trouble free.

The reason I want to know is that I am doing an '07 K-9 project bike (no wiring yet) but want to keep all BDM hand controls, lights, and speedo. So I am trying to figure out the best way to go. And I was thinking of trying to stay stock BDM which would mean EHC (Mistake?).

BDM is done to less than a 1% failure rate on the new bikes so they figured something out. Me, no problems with mine other than some shaffed wires every now and then. Normal maintanence stuff.
I'm sticking with mine!

I don't know what your speedo looks like but I use my stock Autometer with the attachment right from Thunderheart and it works fine.
