New swing arm bearings are a total piece of sh?t

Perhaps I am wrong here and someone can set me straight on these bearings.

I went to the not so local Nashville BDM shop to pick up my transmission minus a few parts they forgot to send back. While I was there I purchased a new set of neck bearings and swing arm bearings, F. K. Bearing COM12T-3R at $12.50 each due to one of mine being locked up and not rotating at all. Manual says to "Inspect the spherical bearing for excessive play or binding or any restriction of free play movement. Did not check them due to being put in a bag and put in the box with the tranny.

Had the bag in the car and I stopped at the local Harley shop to see if they are the same thing they sell due to being close to the house and get everyone the Harley part number.

Mind you these are new bearings and you cannot even rotate them at all. You cannot rotate them, spin them or move them. Placed a ratchet inside the bearing for leverage and they still will not budge. What???

Clerk pulls out the Harley swing arm bearing and they move sweet as silk. Put your finger in it and rotate them.

Stop at the local watering hole and let everyone check out the bearings and everyone is like what is this crap.......

I guess you get what you pay for....Check out your stuff...
I can't see putting these in my bike. A trip back to Harley is in order for some quality bearings..

Update:
I went back to Harley with the BDM swing arm bearing and a set of calipers. The 2000 and up Harley bearings have a larger diameter for the shaft to go through so they cannot be used, but the EVO 84-99bearings are a direct replacement. ....
I do not have the BDM swing arm bearing number but the manufacture part number on the package is F. K. BearingsCOM12T-3R. It also says it is a commercial series spherical bearing with snap ring 3/4 X 3/4.
I went to harley Davidson and the Evo bearings are a direct swap at $41.00 a set with everything
The part number I used was a drag specialties part number# 1302-0084.
A sweet piece compared to what I got at the BDM shop.

I agree with you on the wheel bearings too but others had covered that sore subject too already.... I don't get it at all. Perhaps they can hide behind the cloak of crap by letting the shops do the work and the rider not seeing what is being put in.......
Put your hands on your bike and know what is in it...

Neil, just like those dried out wheel bearings I've gotten. That's why I pull the seal and repack them!

Hey, I ordered my races and bearings intending on changing them out this winter but you know I won't have to do that now.
But wanted to give you the part # numbers you asked about on your other thread.

Neck Bearing #BDM130-00243 $10.99 ea
Bearing Race #BDM130-00242 $5.00 pr

The bearings are Timken and as you would expect are good quality unlike the wheel bearings. My frame and your frame are two different beasts so not sure the numbers I listed above would cross reference with your frame. My frame is a RT.

well its obvious why BDM uses cheap bearings,If the bearings last long enough to make it to the 10k service they are required to replace them, more Money for the dealer, plus the sale of more china bearings,10k miles for a Quality bearing is nothing, BDM can make a quality bike but they need to get off of all of that china shit, bearings,inner/outer primaries/ the new gas caps.and i think the the fork tubes and lower legs are road max china? oh yea those cheap ass starters, they have used some Terry starters in the past which are American MADE but of coarse cost more. I'm not bitching about my bike because I just fcking love it, I would just like to see them use as many American components as possible :flag: ..Dave.

Thanks Ray,
but the numbers I posted in this thread and the other thread are the BDM parts I got from the BDM shop but I used the manufacture part number on the package when I posted. I went back and added the info you have given so if someone searches for it everything is there and correct. I also added the Harley part number cross reference for the neck bearing. Your info is correct though.
Neck Bearing #BDM130-00243 $10.99 ea = = Timken L44643 for the bearing and the race is the L44610 = = Bearing Race #BDM130-00242 $5.00 pr.

Ray,
You being retired from a nuclear sub would appreciate the difference in quality of the bearing Harley sells and the one from the BDM shop. Put one your hand and work it compared to the other. You answer would be gentlemen, we are cruising topside until someone changes the bearings out. I'll be dammed if I am going to let the shaft lock up down under and endanger my crew...
Look,
Singapore and those ports are made for enjoying the ladies not buying parts...:whoop:

I finally found some swingarm bearings that can be bought through any Harley Shop so shipping is not a issue and next day for the most part.

I went to harley Davidson and the Evo bearings are a direct swap at $41.00 a set with everything. They did not have a set of Evo bearings in the house which I understand so they ordered me some.
The part number I used was a drag specialties part number# 1302-0084.

Can you not buy the bearings,By autozone it,s only a question, because my wheelbearing broke in my rearwheel , I order the bearing by bigdog dealer
overnight , they send me the wrong one to big , I call them and he told me
You have to press them in , yes I now but a hole 7/8" I cannot put a bearing in of 1", he told me bigdog told me they are the right size.
Oke I went to autozone and they had the right one , spend about 100 bucks
Bigdog dealer and he told me that I cannot return the bearings.
Spend 10 bucks Autozone .
I don,t now for the K9 dogs but it maybe a todd.

I just got a new rear wheel for my K9 today. I noticed that the bearings didn't want to turn freely in it. I wasn't impressed.

I think I'll save some future grief and install some good bearings.

Guillaume, this thread is about swingarm bearings. If you have question about wheel bearings then check out this thread for both the BDM bearing part numbers and some hi-quality part numbers.
I would say if your dealer sent you the wrong bearings then you need to find a better dealer. My dealer sends mine to me in one day (they are a long ways for me to travel too!).
