Actually, I am taking orders on painted skateboard decks. Just another thing I like to do with my time. Keep in mind, these are not for rail-slides and fakie grinds. These are for hanging on the wall. My next one is going to have Venom from the Spiderman comic/movies. Ram from michigan should like this! Then I have to do one with a Bengal tiger. I also do some all Von-Dutched out with multi-colored pinstriping. Those look cool too. I'll shut up now before this becomes a skater's forum!

Hello Staffy, I usually prefer not to do body-work simply because I work in my small 2-car garage. Body-work makes alot of dust that must be controlled or it will end up in the paint and clear. I CAN do body-work, I just don't like to. Because I have one work area to do everything. The only reason I'm doing BW on this set is because I lost a paint job locally, so I had nothing else to do for a few days. Then Sping blessed me with a sinus infection (which bondo dust doesn't help!), so I took the tins to a body shop to finish the BW. I picked up the tins and paid the shop $200. When I got them home I discovered their work was not up to my standards, so I had to finish the BW myself. Again. $200 lighter and a few days behind schedule. Yay!
I've got the black base on, and I'm laying out some flames in preparation for the airbrushing. Will post up some pix very soon.
Maybe if and when we move back to Oklahoma, I may build a bigger shop. So I can offer more services, and do larger projects. I really miss painting cars, trucks, and boats, ect... Since I don't work for Bigdog anymore, there is no reason for us to stay here in Wichita.

Thanks Staffy, I would like to paint one of your creations in the future. Yeah, sometimes no matter what you do, you can't get every job you drool over. Maybe next time. I knew Deano's would do you a good job. Enjoy! Post pix soon!!!

Hey Ed,
Have you ever done any of the ground metal stuff? If so, how do you get it to stick? Do you use an adhesion promoter like AP101, any special wash, ??

Hello Roaddawg, Yes I have done some grinded aluminum painting. I don't use an adhesion promoter, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt. I do recommend wiping down the metal after the grinding with a cloth rag and laquer thinner. Not a rag that will leave pieces behind, as the metal pretty much shreds any kind of shop towel. Then it gets stuck in your clear. I don't recommend doing this on a vehicle or anything going outside in the elements. I know I've seen projects at SEMA that are grinded and kandied. And they say it will stick and survive, but I'm not a believer. I wish it would. I reserve this type of art for paintings that would remain indoors-hanging on the wall.

Here are some more pix I took of my progress.

Check out what I started with. This was nasty!

How about that pinstripe. The previous painter used pinstripe tape and cleared over it! This is the kind of work that keeps me in business.

This is the body work that the body shop did. Check out the low and high spots. No class, we can't work with this! More body work is needed. I finished this up myself-which I should have done in the first place. I came down with a sinus infection, so I thought outsourcing would save time. Oh well...
