YEA EARL....ITS ON THE LIST TO DO WITH ABOUT TEN OTHER MODS...ONE PAYCHECK AT A TIME THOUGH..

Nice work.....I still have the TP rockers. Would love to change over to S&S and 585 cam. How much valve wear with the TP's.

MINE STILL SEEMED ALRIGHT BUT WENT AHEAD AND DID THEM. LOOKED LIKE I WAS GETTING A LEAK ON THE GASKETS ANYWAY. JUST LIKE THE LOOK OF THE S&S BETTER.

Just curious, which cam did u take out? When I did my S&S swap I pulled out the comp cam that came with it, a 565 I think. My valve guides were shot and 1 exhaust valve had to be replaced. I had the springs checked and it was already set up with the triple S&S ones so I did the 600 cam

:2thumbs:Last week I changed from 600 cams to 585 - very happy with it and prefer it over the 600.

Nice job Dogbone! Let us know what the seat-of-the-pants difference is when you get a chance.

Ok, you can't drop a line like that without elaborating! What do you like more about the 585? Lowend is better I assume...what else?

Let me know if I am wrong but a properly setup 600 cam install will be great all around. Meaning if you had the heads built for the 600 it should perform.

BTW good for you Dogbone! I am wanting to get rid of my TP boxs as well.

Mine had the 600 cam and it had decent response but the 585 by what i can tell from my around the block ride is more response when you twist the throttle, better aceleration...more getty up and go as some put it. IT does make a difference.

The 600 kicks in at higher rpm's, so more upper end power. The 585 gives you more at mid range so most feel it's better all around. If you are only going to drag race, 600 would be better choice.
I was all amped up to go with the 600 myself. My motor head mechanic that builds drag bikes, talked me into a custom ground 585 black widow cam. I couldn't be more happy with it.

If you look at the cam specs you will see that the only meaningfull differance between the S&S 585 and the 600 is that the intake closes 10 deg later on the 600 which bleeds off low speed cylinder pressure. The 585 is probably more suited for a stock BDM compression motor and the 600 is probably more suited for a motor that has had the compression raised to the S&S stock 10.2 to 1

NO QUESTION ABOUT IT!!! If you're going to do your heads, and match the headwork to the .600" cam, you'll be way ahead of the .585" cam in power and torque.
You can take that to the bank .......... :2thumbs:

I have the 600 on in my 06 Mastiff and love it. Mileage suffered a bit, I average about 30mpg but riding to work I usually ride at 90-95mph for a 20 mile stretch, then 15 more miles to work. Probably would get better mileage if I rode at a normal speed, maybe 75 or so.
