2005 Ridgeback. Any pointers on where to start the search. All other lights on cluster work fine. Worked one day and then out the next, no changes were made.

Thanks in Advance

Wiggle the connector on top of your tranny. It's a black square thing and can fill up with dirt, water and other crap. I recommend you clean it real good then fill it with RTV to prevent stuff from getting into it.

Like Ray said check the connector and fill with RTV (good idea Ray). Also check for power there in gear and out of gear. No power check you wires back and look for damage.

What they said. If you do not find anything there I would start by turning on the key, pull the black connector off the neutral switch and jumper the two connectors together (short the two pins). If the neutral light comes on you may have a bad switch. To check the switch use an ohm meter or continuity tester. You should have ~0homs or continuity when the bike is in neutral. If you do not then you need to replace the neutral switch.

If the neutral light does not come on turn the key off, then pull the speedometer housing apart and and check for continuity from the green wire of the neutral switch to the green wire of the green wire of the 8-pin connector. If you do not have continuity then you will have to follow it back connector to connector to find the problem.

If you do have continuity then you need to check continuity to the tach board, just follow the green wire to the PC board.

If you can not find anything repost or send me a PM.

This circuit is pretty simple, a ground on the green neutral wire should light the light. It is not a function of the EHC, the EHC just reads the ground to know if you are in neutral so it can keep the blinkers  blinking.

I had my neutral light go out yesterday... wiggled the black connector and it went on and off. Pulled the black connector and found that the green wire will not stay in the connector. Black wire stays in. Does anyone know where to get a new black connector?

wow you have been riding bikes awhile, never had a neutral light on my first
ten bikes

Are you suggesting that it shouldn't be something that we'd like to have work properly? Are we somehow flimsy or flaccid if we expect the thing to operate as designed? If the bike didn't come with a neutral light, then I would use it without a neutral light. I will use THIS bike without one as long as it takes to repair the light, but since there is a little unlit indicator on my speedo where a neutral light is designed to appear, I will rectify the connection as well as seek advice as to how to do such. The fact that the little green light does not come on does not destroy my faith in humanity, but since the thing is there it might as well work. I feel no "harder" when my light doesn't light up, And I certainly feel no "softer" having the benefit of an encouraging green luminescence when finessing the shifter into place.

I was replying to another poster, the only suggestion I would have is that you probably could have fixed the light in the time it took you to write this post.

yeah, me neither.

my faith in humanity was already destroyed years ago.....if I told you when and why this would become a political disscussion:eek:

1. Photo on post #2... Remove clip from switch. Take an ohm meter, set to infinity.
2. Take black meter probe and stab the switch body.
3. Take the red probe and stab the top of the switch = Did needle swing?
4. Stab the bike in gear, follow 1 thru 3 again = Did the needle swing?

A. Set the meter to the 20v scale.
B. Probe the black wire to black switch wire, red probe to green wire on the connector.
C. Turn key on = Did the meter swing to 12v and did the N light come on?

Raywood still here helping us. I could not figure out how sitting on a lift in my garage my neutral light could just quit working. Figured run it through the old posts. Ray answered my question. Dang wire came off. :chopper:
