Ray, I get nothing at all. No electricity to anything at all.
Ok, you put in a new switch and now your not getting anything out of it. Sounds like that's it to me. You aren't going to get any power anywhere if the switch isn't working!

Now go down to your local 24 hr autoparts store and get you a cheap DC multimeter and check your battery and do the other tests that have been recommended.

I can't imagine it's the battery. I just bought it today from HD. What I need to know is where the EHC gets its power from? There is an orange wire coming out of the starter relay that I would think would be the power source. If that's the case, there is no power coming from that wire.

Ok, that's one wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the switch. Is the wire good. If so then your battery has no juice or is not grounded.

Let us know what you find

It also has four wires coming out of it. One to the EHC, one to positive terminal, one to negative terminal, and one that disappears under the oil tank.
Hmmmm, the wiring diagram shows 4 wires AND a 3 pin connector. The wires coming from that 3 pin connector go to the ignition switch, start button, and headlight relay...

But yours doesn't have that connector? :confused:

Do you have that wiring diagram? I could really use it. And no, there are 4 wires coming off of the starter relay, that's it.

Does your bike have Electronic Compression Releases installed in it? If so the 03's required an 02 starter relay.

Honestly Ray, I have no idea.
03's were set up for electronic compression releases meaning the wiring is ready for them. They must not have had the CR's though as they didn't start coming on the bikes till 04.
But many of us installed them in our 03's since they were ready for them.

To tell if someone installed them just look inside the top of the rocker box. You will either see a bolt head at the bottom of this opening or you will see a rubber bulb. The rubber bulb covers the releases. All 03's required you to use an 02 starter relay.
I'm only bringing this up cause you may have a different style starter relay than that shown on the 03 electrical schematic.

Mr Vampire. I highly recommend you stop going off on tangents and proceed in a logical manner. Assume nothing and use your multimeter and schematic that has very kindly been posted here. Start at your battery. Did you charge it over night? Then from the battery start checking each wire for (+12vdc) outward until you find (+12vdc) going into one end of the wire but not coming out the other. That is point to point electrical troubleshooting. Do this and you will find the problem. Don't do this and you'll waste a lot of time, energy, and money buying parts you think are bad only to find what's feeding them is really the problem. Good luck!

If you find that it's the starter relay gone bad, I think I have an extra one that I got with a used EHC for Rocky's bike before I installed the wireplus. Let me know and it's yours.

I agree with 2004, I just read through this whole thread and you're chasing your tail here. Start with the battery to EHC, since that is where power comes in. If you got power goin into the EHC, but not going from the EHC to the key switch, then the problem is there. Beyond that, you must trace the system step by step, using the wiring diagram to determine the order of things. Don't be afraid to poke a hole in a wire casing to test it, it makes things alot easier and just use liquid electrical tape to seal it back up.

I understand Moe and 2004, I am not good with this electrical crap. To many ifs and maybes. I do know that I do not have power to the EHC at all. In fact, the only place I seem to have power is the starter itself. I put a volt meter on every single wire in the EHC and have nothing. An earlier question I had was, does the EHC get its power through the starter relay? If so, then I am sure it is the relay. Brad, what do you want for the relay?

Just an address but make sure that's what it is. I would take 2004 up on his offer and let him walk you through a few simple checks to verify that this is the culprit. Just PM me with your address and I'll get it coming to you. :cheers:

Hi,

Electrical stuff is like an alien technology if you haven't been doing it. Drive you NUTTS!!

If you want to be absolutely positive it's your module perform these simple tests.

1 - Look at your schematic in the bottom right hand corner and locate the battery. Now an inch to the left and up is your module. ALL control electricity for your bike passes through it except one side of your starter motor and your Voltage Regulator.

2 - Put your black lead from the multimeter on the Batt - terminal and your red lead where the red wire connects to the "Module". If it's sealed (no connector) then do what Moe said and with an exacto knife expose a small part of the wire next to the module and touch the red lead to it. If you have +12vdc then that means the red wire is good and the module is connected to +12vdc. If not your red wire has a break in it. Replace. test for ignition and if not continue on.

3 - Your not done yet! You need a + and a - for electricity to flow.

4 - Connect your red lead to the Batt + terminal and your black lead to the black wire right next to the "module". If you have -12vdc then the black wire is good. If not then your black wire is broken and replace, test for ignition and if not continue on.

5 - IF you have good red and black wires ( + & - 12vdc) to the module then check your Red and Orange wires (Only 1 will be +12vdc ((with ignition OFF - I'm pretty sure it would be the red wire.)) ) from the output side of the module with the red lead and the black lead on Batt -

6 - If NOTHING then module is dead. If good then proceed up to the connector. disconnect it and check it(spots 1 & 2((probably just #1 red)). Then connect it and disconnect the ignition connector and check it(spots 1 & 2). . then connect it and check the back of the ignition switch.

6.5 - If good so far turn on ignition and check Orange wire from back of ign switch. If good, then just keep going wire by wire, connector by connector, until you find NO VOLTAGE!

7 - If at any point you lose your +12vdc reading you have found your problem. Go slow, take your time, and then you will KNOW where your problem lies which is a lot less stressful then guessing. Good luck!!!
