I've spent most of the day cleaning the fuel system and tomm. I will spend the day checking the ignition, coil, wires and plugs. One thing I will add is that people don't need to underestimate the using of dioelectric grease and heat shrinking of connections because all of a sudden my headlight has no problem working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right -- he has an '04 so the ignition timing sensor is in the nose cone (aka, points cover).

Turned out mine had a problem, but originally thought is was the EHC. Trouble shot it to the EHC and the Cam Sensor. Replaced the Cam Sensor --> problem has not reappeared in nearly a year. Since your headlight is operating again, I'd think about the can sensor as a possible source of the problem.

Way cheaper than and EHC!!

I went 55 miles to start (the other day) and had no problem, stopped for about 1/2 hour got back on the bike again and it started happening about 20 miles down the road. If my problem was the cam sensor, would it have started happening before that when it got warm??????? Just trying to figure this out before we leave. Had the carb apart and cleaned yesterday and it was pretty black inside the intake tube and the petcock screen looked pretty hazy compared to what it looked like clean.

EHC '04

I was able to get an '04 EHC from Pat Clark Motorsports in Las Vegas this weekend for about $180. Can't remember if they had any more but you may want to give it a shot if you think thats the problem. I've had the same problem as you but no backfire. Not sure the EHC is your problem, but giving you the heads up if you want the old style for $180 vs the new one for close to $600. Nobody else I called had the older (cheaper) '04 style.

while tank is off, clean it again with the fuel valve out,
flush both, flush gas line.
flush carb. inlet [ from bottom to top] flush it backwards,
with the tank linner gone, you will get a very fine dust/rust in the carb.
if this cleans it up, start using atf,[dexstron 3. or marvil oil in the tank all the time!] to stop the dust build up! :zz2cents:

This morning I went out and finished all the small details and guess what?????
No indicator lights on the EHC so I took it to the shop and the EHC is shot. Thanks for the info Drewv1 but he already ordered one from BDM. Just another $688 installed. I couldn't afford to have another child because this child costs more than my human one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again, all of you, without this website you are at the mercy of one local BDM service center's opinion. WAY TO GO GUYS, all of you are the best.

What is the came sensor then? Its not just a simple pick up cup?

Gas asked;

You have the right idea, it's just part names. The "cup" is the metal part [RED] attached to the shaft. The can sensor is the electronic part (GREEEN) that picks up the cut-outs in the "cup" for timing...

Right... same thing I have. But what you are calling the pickup is really just the ignition unit itself. You can't replace the pickup alone, you have to replace the whole ignition unit. I just had those break on my old crane setup, and now running a Dyna setup.

I only replaced the pickup (green arrow). Problem cleared. The Dyna is a better ignition, but costs more.

Is that a bdm thunderheart? I know the crane and dyna don't have replaceable pick ups and they have 2 pickups not 1. They are one piece units.

Similar Problem with my 04 pitbull

I just purchased the motorcyle from a guy who had this bike in storage it has 2,900 miles on it. I just had the motorcycle serviced (oil, filter and carbs cleaned) 2 problems with the bike! 1. It bogs down and sputters sometimes when I lay on the throttle. 2 When I come to a stop I have to use the throttle to keep it running otherwise it shuts off. Can some one please help?BTW there is a Kerker aftermarket 2 into 1 exhaust and I am not sure of the jetting

Thanks for you time!!

Paul, I would start with cleaning your carb out first and playing with the jets. It sound like you have a gummed up carb from the bike sitting around.
