MY EHC STILL WORKS GREAT !!! i know,, shocking

On my 06 k9 and I want to keep it that way.. (oh and yes I have the newer black base style with plug. Has anybody figured out WHY they are going bad,,, heat, vibration DUH ?? but are there any ways to prolong the inevitable ?? I remember awhile back someone was talking about putting foam under the mounts to help eliminate vibration. (does that help) And I have been thinking since the EHC unit sits directly behind the back exhaust that could definetely be a heat issue, so I am trying to figure out a way to move more air through there or put in something to block the heat. What ideas have you come up with to try to keep the good ones going ?? I have searched through the whole ignition forum and can find LOTS about F_ U_ ones but nothing really about trying to keep "good ones" GOOOD !!! Ive done the dielectric, and keep everything tight, but it SUKS worrying every time I get on it and leave the driveway, if THIS IS THE TIME...

Am I the last one left with an original EHC still in my bike ?? ) seriously somebody must be in the same predicament I am.. I want to see if I can figure out why they are going out so often. I reeely think it has to do with heat and vibration so I am trying to eliminate as much of that as possible I am putting foam insulation on the surround (to reduce heat) and then putting a rubber buffer under it to absorb vibration. I have seen pics of bikes that the paint is cracked right behind the back exhaust due to heat, which is about 2 inches from the EHC,,, thats ALOT of heat. Any ideas ?? I need it to last until at least 12/22/12 when the world is supposed to end, and waiting for a wire plus wont seem like such a big deal or at least the wait time shouldnt be as long.. Any ideas would really be appreciated..

I still have my EHC on my 06 k9, I think your on the right track with heat and vibration. I bought a spare on ebay just in case,but I think I should try to improve that situation.

Its an OEM EHC Franco. Wouldn't know if its been replaced ever but its the OEM unit.

05 pit here.....EHC still going good. it is the newer version w usb port but i have had it over a year and 10,000 miles w no issues. I do all the work on it, rewired my new bars. no issues to date

05 mastiff original ehc 5000 miles no issues. I did shrink wrap all the connections on backbone and battery compartment area.

Original still ticking (knock on wood) but I am going to buy a WP and have it on hand for that dreaded day when it comes. Well I am guess I am going to get in line for a WP seems like they are a bit hard to come by these days.

Had a stall issue awhile back but nothing since so not sure if the first sign of it going.
Ordered the PDM a month ago for the hell of it...they are really backed up. Telling me I have an expected ship date of June 22nd. We'll see about that. I haven't had the best luck with BDMPP

There is a poll here that shows most Dogs have their EHCs. I still have mine and it works fine. But, I do have a WP backup on the shelf.

12,500 on my stock one also. You have to wonder the goofy stuff people do on their bikes that could cause theirs to crap out. Maybe doing electrical work without disconnecting the battery or other things. Dunno, for now I am happy with mine..

hello, I'm from France, I have a problem with my big dog k9 2004, he did not start, I changed the thunder heart, then the starter, and he still does not boot, when I run the led case of thunder illuminates it nothing happens when I loose the starter the bike stops and there is a flintlock that comes from the candle, can anyone help me please? thank you very much

Knock on wood still have the original on my '08 K-9 with 14K miles. Like some other members, I am going to order a wire plus just in case.
