So I’ve been cleaning and shinning the Mastiff. I re routed all the wires made it look cleaner ,wires were all bunched up some were worn and about to tear. I have wire plus on it. I put it all back together It’s still dying out and popping supper loud when I rev it up. Maybe. I didn’t connect something up. Any ideas on where to start is appreciated.

Sounds like a clogged carb? It was doing it before the wire cleanup, yes? So if it dies, it says fuel circuits clogged. It has spark to pop and compression to run. All that is left is fuel so as to eliminate the other two.

Has the bike been sitting for months. Did you drain the carb for winter storage?

It was dying before, but now can idle fine, starts right up.
It can take the fuel and revs up, now it pops when I stand next to the bike, whack the throttle open, it revs up no problem, but it pops now.

Confirm. I have a lot of cards in hand and I may throw the wrong one on the table.

I just put new plugs on it. Didn’t ride it at all just started it and didn’t want it to die out on me.

So, it does idle, it takes fuel, starts fine. You are just concerned about the popping when revving.

Yes, it starts right up... Not the fuel pump.
Yes, it revs till the valves float or rev limiter kicks in... Not the fuel pump again.
Yes, I can go look at the old plugs and they are white tan, not black sooty looking... Not the air cleaner.

You say yes to all, I may have the answer short of the test ride to confirm.

How about yes to the others. With new plugs, are the yeses still there? Start with a clean air cleaner element or wash it with hot soapy water if cleanable.

Now is a good time to pull the plugs. Who is sooty, front or rear? Still trying to eliminate the fuel pump for the other two yeses.

Not sure exactly how to tell on the , it revs till the valves float or rev limiter kicks in. Sorry. But I really do appreciate the help.

Has the bike been sitting? That looks real rich with a few starts. Maybe stuck injectors due to the sticky goo when sitting for months on end.

The rev is about: does it drop on its nose, or does it go past 5,000 rpm when you fully open the throttle. It happens fast, so you either catch it from over revving, or the safety of the coil, or injectors being cut off by the EFI, or it has no safety and you over rev it and hit parts inside. So all you are doing is telling if the pump can feed the high rev demand of fuel needed. These are high torque, low revving engines, so you just want to see if it can take fuel at high rpm. This says the fuel pump can meet the pressure drop of the demand of the fuel needed for thousands of rpm... you eliminated the pressure variable.

Might want to suit up, toss the ratio for injector cleaner to gallons of gas, see if this was sitting, yes? Then, still, it points to leaking, or sticking injectors that meets the rich pop in the pipe. So say the plugs.

UNLESS, UNLESS, WOT is the Compression of the cylinders? Do not chase the tail gulping inj cleaner and it does not help.
1. Clogged A/C Element.
2. Leak/lag at the injectors.
3. Compression.

Yes it has been parked for a while when it was running seemed like it was starving for fuel. Like it was not getting enough gas and seemed like it was only the front cylinder was working at times then it would kick in and run fine

As you can see Im not mechanically inclined. Gonna come have a guy come take a look at it hopefully tomorrow. Good thing is I’m gonna go pick up the bagger Monday. I really appreciate your time and patience

No prob. I'd call the dog off. We both know it was a sitter and the result is sticky parts. A good ride and wash the injectors as you ride it with new gas and inj cleaner... chemically reacting> gas is a detergent, so fresh gas is going to clean as will the other chemical in the mix. It should clear up is my guess.
