I have had Paul Yaffe Phantom Pipes, Trotta D'2, Vance and Hines 2 into 2's, and Martin Brothers Medustas. I didn't have baffles in any of the pipes and I would have to say the Martin Brothers were the loudest, but all of them were f-ing obnoxious, except for the Vance and Hines. Vance and Hines are just an all around good pipe, but alot of people have them. I'm not a big fan of blueing pipes, so I always get heat shields or go with ceramic coating. Black ceramic is a pain in the ass, because any little scratch shows up. My favorite looking pipe is the Yaffe Phantom, but not impressed with how thin the pipes are, not a very heavy pipe and the heat transfer was exessive on my bike. I have a set on Trotta D 2's I'll let go for $150.00 but they need to be re-chromed or ceramic coated. The D-2's go for about $900 bucks.

I know everyone has them but they are hard to beat

I did a thread on the fact that Vance and Hines claims they don't make them for the 08 Ridgeback but as you can see above, the 05 Ridgeback pipes bolt right on.

Good looking dog... but "hard to beat"? I don't think so!

And please understand... I'm not doggin on you or the bike. I use to have the same pipes. They are a good entry level pipe.

However, where they fault is when you can pull up to any light and see them on any other bike and on perhaps multiple.

If you have a custom bike get a more custom pair of pipes.

Now that is one side of the coin. The other... V&H pipes are junk! The pipe is thin, diameters are small so they can be used on a wide variety of pipes, but doesn't work as well with the big motors. Further, they can't make a decent baffle if you threatened them to do so.

Just my $0.02

Gas Man, I suppose that means you won't be putting a set of V & H on the bagger then huh???

I don't think they are the best pipes but for the money and the look, they are hard to beat. I am going to get a set of Stainless Creations ultimately but wanted something to hold me over until then. It's all about you get what you pay for

I haven't heard anyone but Gas not liking the V&H pipe. I have spent a shit load of cash on pipes and the V&H are good as any. So you get what you pay for is not always the case with pipes, pipes are a f-ing rip off. The heat shields on V&H fit better than most, and our bikes seem to run well with them. Pig Pen has a set on his bike since 04, no trouble and his bike has always ran great! Sorry Gas, your the man, but can't always agree with you, don't be sad everyone is wrong once in a while.

I am going to have to have to agree with Gas on this subject. Vance & Hines pipes suck. The pipe is very thin and if it weren't for the heat shields covering the entire pipe the whole fuckin thing would be blue. Not to mention the fact that every swinging dick out there has a set on their bike. Plus the Big Radius pipes are a rip off from the Martin Bros Daisy Cutters. I run ceramic black Medustas on my chopper and they are LAF. A good friend of mine runs Daisy Cutters on his HD Springer and they too are LAF. So if you want the big radius pipes from V&H because you like the shape... do yourself a favor and buy the Martin Bros Daisy Cutters, you will be much happier in the end. Let's face it most of us spent upwards of $30K on our Dogs. Do you really want to put a set of pipes on it that everyone else has? There are so many sets of V&H Big Radius pipes on the road that i'm beginning to think they are putting them on as a stock exhaust. Martin Bros. Grumpy's, Stainless Creations, Exotic Choppers all make great looking and LOUD ASS pipes that have that custom look that will compliment a Dog much more than a set of Vance & Hines.

Trust me if your medustas were not ceramic coated black they would be blue. I do agree everyone has the BR. I put mine on back in 04 before BDM started to offer them. If I had the cash I would be shopping for a new pipe. Not due to quality but because everyone has them now.
