Installing Compression Releases

So today, I figured I would install some compression releases. These badboys are the reason I tore my bike apart to begin with! Well, one thing led to another and....well, you know what happens.

Anyways, I have attached the two documents you will need to install CRs in your bike so long as it was originally wired for them (mine was and I believe most 03s were). The S&S installation guide and the Big Dog Service Bulletin.

Here are the pics.

This is what you get and what you'll need. CRs x2, S&S CR socket tool, plastic/rubber boot and wire heat protection. You will also need a start module for a 2002 P/N BD4120-1

Make sure you clean the area around the plug. Then remove the plug in your heads. I would loosen a little, then blow some compressed air in the area just to make sure no crud got inside the cylinder. Put some anti-sieze on the CR threads and make sure the compression washer stays all the way back. Like a washer on a sparkplug. If it won't stay on, use some grease.

Thread it by hand then slide your socket over/thru the wiring. The S&S instructions are very detailed and helped out big time.

Make sure you torque to proper specs and this is what it looks like when you are done.

I wanted my wiring to exit towards the carburetor on each cylinder so i routed my wiring accordingly.

Smear some WD-40 on the inside of the 'bubble' and it will slide down easily. Here's what it looks like when you are done.

CRs have 2 wires each. Power and ground. I'm not done with the wiring on my bike so no pics of it yet but it's all explained in the Big Dog Service Bulletin attached.

Sorry LDO but I have to go there because your not gona make it to Bike Week. “Florida Winter Mods” that’s a oxymoron. Your first year here I’ll cut ya some slack. This is the riding season August/September is the best time to rip your bike apart. Hurricanes and Tropical storms circling around the state at that time with the daily summer storms etc…. :2thumbs:

Last Chapter

Well,
after spending the last couple of days practically living in the garage, today seemed like it would be the final stretch except for the seat which is in the mail.

Got everything done and if I had a dime for every time I thought, "Custom Don't Bolt On!" I'd be a rich man!!:bang:

Anyways,
here are the pics.

Wire loom re-done. Very nice and super cheap mod.

Here's my starter cable which had the same dried up rubber as everyone else on here! This is what it looks like after a little shrink tubing and wire loom.

New clutch Cable Clamps.

A/C going on. Carb got re-worked by member John Sachs and yes, that is a T-jet in there.:D

Took my to-do list and made my little measuring tool for my front end fall-away. Seemed to work pretty good.

Got the luggage rack installed and bag mounted.

So I start cleaning the garage up and getting things back to normal a bit, putting away all the tools and stuff. And guess what the mail brings.....

Some pictures need no words.....

Putting it on the bike...you can also see my desperado A/C cover too.

Man this thing looks good.

Not too tired to smile though....pretty comfy for brand new too...

Tomorrow, I'll take her for a spin to see how close my jetting and adjustments are.....:2thumbs:

Looks great, glad it all came together. That seat kicks ass, your not going to believe how comfortable it is. Well worth the time (and money).
