Installing Compression Releases
So today, I figured I would install some compression releases. These badboys are the reason I tore my bike apart to begin with! Well, one thing led to another and....well, you know what happens.
Anyways, I have attached the two documents you will need to install CRs in your bike so long as it was originally wired for them (mine was and I believe most 03s were). The S&S installation guide and the Big Dog Service Bulletin.
Here are the pics.
This is what you get and what you'll need. CRs x2, S&S CR socket tool, plastic/rubber boot and wire heat protection. You will also need a start module for a 2002 P/N BD4120-1
Make sure you clean the area around the plug. Then remove the plug in your heads. I would loosen a little, then blow some compressed air in the area just to make sure no crud got inside the cylinder. Put some anti-sieze on the CR threads and make sure the compression washer stays all the way back. Like a washer on a sparkplug. If it won't stay on, use some grease.
Thread it by hand then slide your socket over/thru the wiring. The S&S instructions are very detailed and helped out big time.
Make sure you torque to proper specs and this is what it looks like when you are done.
I wanted my wiring to exit towards the carburetor on each cylinder so i routed my wiring accordingly.
Smear some WD-40 on the inside of the 'bubble' and it will slide down easily. Here's what it looks like when you are done.
CRs have 2 wires each. Power and ground. I'm not done with the wiring on my bike so no pics of it yet but it's all explained in the Big Dog Service Bulletin attached.
