I could have my biker buddy meet you, he is in the same office across the street from bridge street.

Or I can meet you in may. You just let me know.

And there you have it. Just goes to prove you can buy anything if you have the cash. Was that a crank I saw protruding from the front of the new Corvette?

Laugh now but I am going to look into this! In 2011 I went to Sturgis. I brought my 03 BD chopper and my HD ultra I had bought and just finished with the engine rebuild. Had not painted the bike yet at this time. Anyway. We got there and the 1st day the BD Chopper would not crank. I went and bought a new battery and put in the bike lights worked! Everything but when you pushed starter button, nothing. I loaded it up and brought it out to Spearfish to South Dakota Cycle a old BD dealer. I had to wait a few hrs and then he checked it. Sure enough starter was fried. He did not have one but would over night one. So I go back to the rent house and we get on the HD and head out to enjoy what was left of our day & night. I called the bike shop the next day while out in the Black hills enjoying ourselves and somewhere around noon called the bike shop, the starter had not arrived. The owner would put a tracker on it. So the 3rd day we went to the Badlands. I remember this due to no cell reception and me being anxious on getting my BD back between my legs. So we got back to Spearfish were we rent a certain house and I had indeed missed a call on the trip back from the Badlands. I called the dealership and the bike was ready. I jumped in my truck and took off to retrieve my precious ! That evening the other couple wanted to ride to Deadwood and eat at the #10 bar steak house on the 2nd floor.( for those of you who have never eaten there, there food is heavenly)!!! I fired up my chopper and life was good! Road to dead wood and oh I was so happy!!!! After Dinner we all decided to head to the nightlife of Sturgis. I mounted my BD with Mrs Liferider on back and pressed the start button. The starter made the most fucked up noise I have ever heard but it spun the motor and it caught! My precious came alive! BUT! On the way to Sturgis that horrible noise I had heard really bothered me!!!!!! When we got to the Stop sign about a mile south of I90 heading into Sturgis, I told my friend. " I'm concerned, I'm running back and swap bikes. They laughed and called me paranoid. Even so I made the 34 mile round trip and returned on the Ultra. We partied and had a great time. The next morning we were heading to do the Needle Hwy and Iron back mountain loop. But my BD just clicked! I was correct in hearing something. Had I listened to them the night before I would have been screwed! So I called the bike shop. 3 day back log and he refused to put my bike ahead of anyone else's. I was pissed! I explained I had paid him $750.00 and my starter was still broke! He said in 3 days he would honor his warranty! Fuck him! I road the rest of the trip on the Harley. When I got back to Shreveport I brought it to Ricky Farmer at R&D cycles. Ricky truly is one of the finest bike mechanics there is! He found the problem and called me. Seems the mechanic out the spacer bracket on my starter gear went past the clutch flywheel and was hung up on the outside of the flywheel. A fucking $.99 washer was left out on the reassembly an the primary side which does not allow the starter gear to go past the flywheel. I sent a copy of the bill to the South Dakota bike shop. He refused to pay me back though! Anyway had I had a kick starter when the original starter fried I would have enjoyed Sturgis on my Chopper than my HD Ultra. The ultra is fine and I enjoy it for long rides, 6-8 hrs or a out of state run. But I truly love my Dog! Even with a slam button it would have been screwed in both my problems in Sturgis, where had I had a kick starter I would have been fine! That's why I am looking strongly into this!

Jonathan, that sounds like one hell of a trip. It is good that you had another bike with you so that you could still enjoy it. How many guys would have been just flat screwed? I don't mean to laugh at you guys, if you want a kick start and got the money go for it. It just seemed like such a crazy idea but it would be unique to see a kicker hanging out the side of a Big Dog. Good luck and thanks for the story.

If you had a compression release setup to work with it I don't think it would be all that hard to fire off
But that baby better be tuned or you'll be kicking the crap out of that thing

Personally, I don’t think anyone would be able to kick start a 117.
Ask Mastiff Dave about last year when his battery was too low to start the Dog, and he had to push start it. He was away from home and called me, but neither I, or anyone with me had any jumper cables at the time, so I just suggested he push start it and we’d wait on him.
For those that don’t know Dave, he’s not a small guy. But had I known that it was gonna take 30 minutes AND 5 other people to help push start it, I would have just went and bought some cheap jumper cables from an auto parts store. I now keep some on my scooter. I have an EFM auto clutch, so no push start for me, but I do have a slam button, now if I can just find the time to put it on the scoot.

I'll second that! I've tried to pushstart it alone, not a fun proposition. The one time it worked, I had two guys pushing me, and I had to hit the starter button to open the compression releases as soon as I dumped the clutch or it would just skid. :D

what gear you guys dropping the clutch in when push starting? I would assume 3rd?

the higher the gear the more advantage the wheel as on the motor.

Just for looks

My 85 wide glide has both on a 1340 motor and I used the kicker once. It took me about 5-6 try's to get running. With a Harley just push start it. Big Dogs not sure they like being push started though? It would be easier to bring a spare battery.
