Karata front pulley Woes...

Hello all,

Was riding this weekend and my front pulley came loose......was close to home and got it in the garage. Took it apart and the three allen bolts that hold the pulley to the boss had backed out....one bolt was holding by a thread or two.

I will order new stuff from Jim but wondered how do i get that big nut that is likely gorilla torqued onto the crank shaft to remove the damaged boss....? I have no impact or shop air....

Thanks,

Shane

I wish I had more money.
You'll need the correct size socket for starters. Get the longest ratchet you can fin then slide a pipe over that to add length and give it hell. There are a few ways to keep it from spinning the wheel. Put a block of wood, twisted up rag, or even a screw driver handle in between the belt and the pulley.

I take a heat gun to the nut and stuff a rag between the belt and pulley and like Mikie said, the correct socket and a long breaker bar...:2thumbs:

Yup Yup on the above advice. Shane, about how many miles did you have on the pulley before it loosened up? I'm headed out to the garage to check mine

I would use a pull bar and whack it with a 2 pound hammer to break it loose. Not as good as an impact, but should work in a pinch. Hope this helps.

this would be good until it 1) bounces off and hits the tank 2) bounces off and hits the motor and breaks some fins 3) bounces off and hits you in the shin 4) bounces off and hits you in the nuts. you see where i'm goin'.:eek::roll::roll:

good luck

/then by all means don't let it bounce!! ya need to hang on with one hand and smack it with the other. I did say 2 pound not 20

How about just going to Harbor Freight and picking up a 2hp compressor and a 75 gal storage tank for about $250.00

This is the method I use most often

Thanks Guys......I will start with the correct socket.....I have breaker bars etc.

I would check these often and will do so now to be sure they are snug....this could have been much worse if I was on a road trip someplace...

If push comes to shove I will but the compressor etc.....I like impact wrenches!
