Yahtzee ...nice when a shitty situation comes out okay.

I was able to weld a nut on and she came out took a couple tries to get it right but drilling that out I would have been here all night!, ran a tap down the holes and back together!

Now onto the pushrods a few hours later...

Hope you disconnected the battery and grounded the Welder as close as possible to the work. Don't want to read next week about you have ingredients electrical and or bearing problems.
Honestly that didn't cross my mind. I was more worried about the tire and a piece of slag melting it. Wasn't really thinking looks like I'm lucky. Lights still work once I finish the pushrods I'll fire it up.

Finding a ground wasn't super easy since everything is painted haha but all looks well. Definitely don't want to that again if possible

Is there a source for those types of bolts...(just in case)
Hardware store Chrome Allen Heads 3/8-16

the book calls for 1" in the rear and 1-1/4 in the front for K9.

However I just measured and I now have 1.25 in rear and 1.5 in the front. I think that's better and when I saw how much bite I had after I took out the broken one I would say part of the reason it sheared was it didn't have enough bite

What grade bolt did you go back with. Grade 5 ?
All chrome SHCS (Allen heads) are grade 8 is my understanding. Can't get another way from what I am aware of. Which kinda sucks for this specific application

Well everything is back together adjusted the pushrods 3 full turns it is certainly significantly quieter, rear is still a bit noisy front is whisper quiet.

Bike fired right up...1/2 day of work took a full day with the bolt issue on the strut. Spent about 8 hours today in the garage less lunch. Not exactly my plan

Sounds like fun to me. I'm working on the boat until she goes in the water. All the bike are ready to ride at any time. :)

I'm with ya. Clutch started getting soft on me on my 100 mile ride yesterday since I'm meeting up down south here in a few weeks figured I'd double Check the hub nut. All good in the hood! Wasn't loose good peace of mind as I plan on putting at least 1500 miles on in 2 weeks.

Now I gotta put it all back together. Probably adjust the push rods too.

Seems to be be a little sag in that chain. You tighten it?

Hadn't heard about that. Thanks for the tip, you are probably absolutely right as soon as it loosens up a bit it sheers right off. I just looked at these wedge bolts, I guess you are skeptical since yours still sheared off. Damn these bad boys are expensive! Now here is a question is the thread measured after the washer? So if I buy a 1" its equivalent to a regular 1" bolt or will it be shorter due to the extra washer?

I think the other issue is they only call for 1" bolts in the rear you can go 1-1/4" without passing through the frame. I did try a 1-1/2" and that was too far it came out the other side and it cuts it too close to the swingarm for my taste.

Late model change in 08 was to use "wedge lock" washers behind them. Mine had those and still broke off too.

Once you loose clamp load if it loosens, then there is a larger sheering moment on the bolt.

I'm skeptical about the wedge lock claims.

Notcied those are not chrome - After a quick search came up with the washers. They are made by a company called Nord Lock - Going to have to look into this a bit more see if it will fit.

Normal thread engagement should be 2-3X diameter
On the rear if you run 1" bolts like manual states it's probably not even 2X. That's why I like the 1.25

I'm going to fastenel today for the lock washers. fastenal says these are only 0.10 Thickness so I don't need a longer bolt, I'll stick with the 1.25 rear

Let me know what you find, and part numbers if you can. I have not replaced mine yet.
Hey PM me your address I just bought a pack of 25 at fastenel today. I'll slip 4 in the mail since you tipped me off on them. Haha they fit great and if they work or not is to be determined either way its a washer. They seem like they would be helpful sure. Along with loctite seems like a no brainer

Washer fits perfectly snug in the strut
