K9 Rebuild/Upgrade

I'm planning to send this to a machine shop in Kentucky. I bought the Accutronix Tribal Grips as a guide for what I want. The Big Dog Grips and Plastic inserts will give them the correct dimensions. This will give me a matching set of grips/Foot Pegs. Don't know what they're going to charge but my father knows the owner and has always gotten a good deal. Once they create the Computer CAD File they can produce them again and again.
I wonder if they could make the oil pressure gauge mounts that attach to the rocker box? That way Big Dog owners could get the mount then add their own gauge. Or possibly other pieces?

Are you referring to a Dual Gauge Mount? If so, I would like that also. I think you have the Arlen Ness Gauge (single), I like the style. On a Dual Gauge what would you want on the second Gauge? I'm thinking Oil Pressure/Oil Temperature, or Oil Pressure/Air Pressure (For my Air Ride). I posted about this a while back but I've had so much going on that I forgot all about it. I'm ABSOLUTELY sure the shop I use can make it. They make military style. 50 Cal. Sniper Rifles so this is no problem for them. I've got an extra Rocker Box that I could send. Give me some time and I'll look into it. We'll have to find a matching set of (3) gauges, (Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature, Air Pressure), I'll need to send one as a guide. What are your thoughts?

I'd love to have the dual gauge and use it as oil pressure and voltage/ Amps. But I don't have one, I know someone from a long time ago on here had one. Bad thing is I think it was Jeff (DOC), but not 100 percent sure. But even the single Arlen Ness one for the guys that want it at the rocker box instead of behind the cam cover on the engine. I have a spare Arlen Ness, I also have the old Jerzee set up on the Bagger if anyone remembers them. lol. But I could defiantly box the mount up and ship it to them so they could at least make the housing.

I had a little trouble with the Arlen Ness. First, at the edge of my Rocker box covers where the bolts go, its not level. There's about a 30° contour/angle. If you just bolt up the gauge it will be at an angle, pointing down. So, I took a Dremmel and cut a couple of chrome Spacers I had which were just small enough to go down into the rocker box bolt bolt slots. The spacers were cut just high enough to clear the top of the rocker boxes and I was able to bolt up the gauge without the tilt. The other problem I ran into was that the oil pressure line that came with the gauge was way too long. I eventually found a company in Germany that made the correct length line for our engines. I think if you (anyone) searches online you can buy different versions of the Arlen Ness kit, with the correct line. It line length may be listed in millimeters but the conversion is about 13". I really like the style on the Ness gauge as well as the quality of the gauge. I spent a few minutes yesterday trying to find out who actually makes the gauge that comes with the Arlen Ness kit. I thought if I could find out who made it I could see if they manufactured other gauges as well. If so, these would make a really nice dual setup. However, if you look at the face on the gauge you see an (A), logo...so it looks like Arlen Ness had these made specifically for them.

That is kind of weird your Arlen Ness was siting at an angle, Mine is straight and I didn't have to make any mods to mine. I do have washers underneath and on top of the bracket but not for leveling or anything, just thinking about torque and holding it down better? But I'm glad you got yours to work after all that.

And yes years ago when I bought mine from Arlen Ness I asked about replacement gauges or different style gauge, and they had mentioned the company that made them for them could have different faces, but at that time this was what Arlen Ness offered for Big Dogs.

If you look closely to where the bolts go in (under the bracket) you can see the chrome Spacers in the bolt holes.
I do see them, I wonder if your bracket is for a different motor type verses an actual S&S? I'm pretty sure and I'll look tonight that my bracket fits where your spacers are but again mine does sit in that lip on the edge perfectly and it level?

Found this from a 2008 Forum post. Looks like his tilts inward also. Pic 2 looks like it's contoured on the bottom for the rocker box. I believe my gauge mount was flat. So, it's possible I got the wrong one. I actually didn't even notice there were different versions of the kit but there is.

Do you remember the name of the company that makes the gauge?

Ah...I see the problem. I got the wrong one (pic 1). Notes specify: Will not fit 6 Bolt S&S Rocker Box Covers (pic 2). I should have ordered the other version (pic 3). That's probably what you have.
The only arlen ness gauge that will fit correctly is the 15-666 which is not being made anymore. The twin cam harley ones you are looking at does not fit s&s rocker boxes.

Jerzee customs is the only other company that use to make them for s&s rocker boxes which they do not make them now either.

There is some other brackets that will work but it will be a 1 hole bracket not a 2 hole bracket. You can find those on Ebay.

Yeah I have a Jerzee on the Bagger, but i have a spare (backup) Arlen ness full kit. We were thinking of sending the bracket to his machine shop and letting them make a few for anyone wanting one, but that person would need their own gauge, oil line and fittings. Just in talks now but we were discussing a dual gauge setup also. And I know someone on the forum page use to have one but couldn't remember who. You don't happen to remember do you? Was it Erik, Jeff (dead one), I honestly can't remember but I do know they messaged me about it years ago.

I was still very satisfied with this version. Since the spacers I used were Chrome, they blended right in. Getting the correct oil line from a shop in Germany was a little expensive, $100. However, it was easy to order online and arrived about 6-7 days.
