Issue with the new PDM, bike stalls when horn is used

I talked to BDM about this issue and in about a week and a half they are going to be sending out a new horn relay and a shielded cable that will fix the horn problem on the PDM.

Well, they say week and a half, so we are looking for it in about 3 weeks...LOL

The advantage over the wire plus is it's a much faster and simpler installation, and in the end you're not trying to stuff 10 lbs of shit into a 5 lb bag. Anyone who's ever done a wire plus knows what I mean. Price wise, I believe the guy I did one for paid about $500 for his. If you gotta have a horn this simple mod will take care of it. The pdm will not fit the earlier models with a normal oil tank, I guess they can't make it small enough to fit under there.

Is that why BDM charges/calls for 6 hours labor on their kit? If Wire-Plus reworked the entire battery tray to mount everything to, it would be easier too. At $75 an hour & 6 hours thats more than enough time to put a Wire-Plus kit in. I've been doing them for $350-$450 (2004 & 2005+) all along including switch. Oh, and a Wire-Plus WILL fit in the earlier models with the oil tank, so it looks like its BDM that couldn't stuff the 10 lbs into the 5 lb bag. :) This last weekends bike I did for InDaDogHouse was a 2004 Bulldog with an oil tank and I had no problem fitting everything and it came out a clean install when done.

I'm just saying that I'd rather have a wire-plus in my bike considering it costs the same or less, and the labor is roughly the same and you don't loose features on the bike.

Just 2 cents, maybe 1.5 !

BDM quoted me 2 hrs for the PDM install on an 08 K9 Carb. They quoted 6-8 hrs on a wire plus. This was Freedom Cycle in DE.

You're right Moespeeds...it's 2 hours labor for the PDM replacement, and I quote 6 hours for the Wires Plus...

Hey guys I'm doing the horn relay retrofit to the PDM, FROM BIG DOG. This is the BIG DOG fix for the horn issue, not the diode fix listed in this thread. There is an error in the instructions, telling you to plug a wire into the connector on the main harness, pos 1, but there is already a wire in there. Anyone done this install yet?

where are you guys finding these pdm kits?

This thread was from back in Feb, march when BDM was selling before the shutdown/restructure, and BDM recalled the PDM kits.

Last I heard a week ago from a customer, they called BDM on getting a PDM kit and they told them 4-6 weeks out.

Just what I know...

I spoke with bdm and the solution is to pull pin 3 from the connector on the main harness, clip it and fold it away, and plug the wire from the new relay in there. They just left the step where you pull the pin outa the instructions.
