Is there electrical problems with 2008 EFI K9's

Former BD dealer has a 2008 fuel injected K9 for sale and when I asked about electrical troubles he said there was no problems with the 08's EFI because the harness that causes problems was different in the 2008's. Any truth to that? Still look for a K9, Jim

:roll:Sorry, EFI harness is better? Never heard that one. I would be more worried about miles and whats been done to the bike!:2thumbs:

I wouldn't touch the EFI bikes. If you have an issue, it's very difficult to find someone who will work on it.

I'll just tack on a couple questions to this thread since they're related.

Will there be any problems with adding air cleaner and pipes to an EFI bike ?

How hard / expensive would it be to switch efi back over to carb'd ?

Is it true that because of the emissions restrictions, that efi bikes are less powerful than the carb'd versions ?

Well I've got an 08 K9 that's ridden hard and put up wet.
Electrical problems -- Had a bad switch in the handlebars that screwed up my turn signals (warrantied and not 08 specific)
EHC finally went (common across the Dogs)
VR died

Nothing other than those issue and I've got over 45K on that puppy.

An EFI bike will learn the new pipes and air cleaner within 50 miles. I have one today, no issues electrically with the bike.. It just starts and runs smooth. The battery is the key to these bikes.. They must be a on trickle charger and riden often..

Swtiching back and forth is quite expensive.

I agree with the trickle charger theory, need full charge on the battery.....Did you have to change the ECU with the air cleaner or are you still running the stock ECU. I always thought that changing the pipes were no big deal with the stock ECU but air cleaners or any further engine work needed the programmable version with the PRo Tunes software? FYI I have 12,500 mile on my 08 with an EFI and she runs great (stock EHC).

Since we are on the subject of batteries and trickle chargers. When I put the dog away after a ride she usually registers only 50 percent on the trickle charger after it reads the battery. What does anyone else's read?

Mine usually goes to blinking Green within a few minutes after a ride. That means my battery is at 80% or better. I would put a meter on your battery while the scoot is running, to be sure your charging system is working correctly. Should be reading close to 14 volts DC. If you see that value, it means your charging system is working and I would start looking at your battery having issues with holding a good charge.

I guess all 2005 and up Harleys with fuel injection need Sven the fule injection genius to fix them. Plenty of people know alot about fuel injected bikes. Don't listen to all the stuff you hear. Do some research and make your own decision. Its easy to be mislead. :loony:

Thanks Brew. I will start there. Every year and a half I have to buy a new battery. The CCA's are dead after a year on each one.

Anybody heard from Sven lately:D All bs aside, he did have a few good trouble shooting tips when I was working on my wifes fuel injected harley.

We own two 2007 EFI Bulldogs. The EHC's are both running fine and both dogs are stock except for the V&H Big Radius II pipes. 13k and 16k miles. Just recently the one dog has a misfire at around 4k rpm's that we are tracking and think it may be a faulty TPS on the throttle body.

I wouldn't modify anything except the exhaust to only the V&H BR2 or BR2 into 1 pipes.

Close to 20,000 and no problems with the EFI, I also switched to an unlocked version, changed cam to .585, dual runner, V&R 2-2 bike would just run and run. Once while in DC for rolling thunder it went into overheat mode due to traffic and low speeds.
