Makes sense that they would still use the dealer network to distribute parts. My guess is that all current warranties are now void and you will not see any new bikes made. Sounds like that have not been making new bikes for awhile now. I agree with many others here, we really don't need a dealer. Pays are available from other manufactures. The dealer in Denver closed long ago. Use to be a dealer in Durango (SW part of the state) but no more. The one in Colorado Springs went under a few months ago...but are still listed on BDM website. Truth is no dealer here in Colorado for some time.

Maybe this is a Big "Hoax"? Launched by the BDM haters... This type of publicity will "Damage" a firm very quick, especially if they are in jeopardy...I dont know what to think...Big Dog is still moving forward like nothing's changed...Fact is they are not building any new bikes because they dont have the employees or the orders....So if that's the death, then thats it...I heard when they get 30 orders, they will bring back a few employees to assemble and ship...:bang:

This getting my hopes up and shooting them back down is stressing me out! :bang: Worst of all my BD dealer here is on vacation so I can't even ask him. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, hoping for the best for BigDog, but will cherish my BigDog no matter what happens!

WOW!!! I was just there last Thursday, March 30th, on a "just a wild hair" road trip to Colorado. Spoke with Kitty (the front receptionist) & spent some time with Chris Theobald. Neither one said anything about this when we spoke about the tough time the company (and all of us) are going thru. I genuinely believe both were ignorant of the news

Well i have talked to my dealer here and they haven't heard anything, but this is what i got in a email from BDM "I am not in a position to discuss due to my limited knowledge of the topic at this time. I am certain of there are any changes that an announcement will be made. At this time business is going as usual." So i guess take that as u want.

Why doesn't Obomba lend them money like Harley got? Harley has had many of ruff times too. BDM will be back. I hope.

Funny ... ya seem to be the only one saying they are insolvent (based on a rumor and speculation) ... and have absolutely no knowledge of how a bank deals with a business in a BK or default situation, which we famously went through and survived nicely. But wait .. that's impossible and I'm really not here (just read the posts from 2 years ago) ... LOL. What normally happens is that a consultant is placed in a board leadership position to protect assets as the business operates. :up:

By the way, even in the case of a total failure, warranties are usually still honored and funded through the BK courts out of remaining assets and through state super funds as a last resort. The courts always do their best to protect the employees, then consumers, then secured creditors and finally miscellaneous creditors.:bang::bang:

In a word, Big Dog is obligated to notify their dealers directly if closing or filing. That fact would also make their local news. Neither has happened. As a major Big Dog dealer, if I hear of anything concrete and factual and official I will post it here. Until then, please do not spread unsubstantiated rumors that do nothing but hurt your dealers, yourselves and the company you claim to admire.:up::up:

No one likes to see an American company go under, especially one that we have invested out hearts and money into. Times are unprecedentedly tough. When there are families out of work and $4/gal gas prices, luxury items go by the wayside. BDM is a business and unfortunately sometimes this happens. I hope one day that the economy returns and BDM can regroup, invest in making a higher quality and more reliable product, and give the world some hell. Until then, ride um. I know this sucks, but I haven’t needed BDM or their dealers for over two years.

I called bdm in wichita today and asked them about the closing n was told they were not closing, than i decided to call gateway big dog in st. louis n asked them, i was told they were ceasing production on there 2011 models n concentrate on parts, than start up production again in 2012.

Now that makes sense. If you look around out there they still got 08-10s that are brand new and haven't sold yet. With that kind of backlog there is no reason to keep paying people to produce 2011 bikes right now.

It's not good news and it means BDM is hanging on by a thread, but technically they haven't shut the doors. They are just producing parts right now and if things pick back up they will start building bikes again in 2012 if there are enough orders.
