Is Big Dog Motorcycles really done?

Every time I walk past the dog in the garage, I will smile just the same.
Blasting down the freeway today, the same smile on my face can still be seen.
Opening her up where I shouldn't, the same arse twitch.
One thing has changed, I am more enthusiastic to learn more about the mechanics of the dog.
Raise a glass, cheers BDM.

Been avoiding the forum a bit this weekend because the knowledge of our beloved Big Dog closing...just makes my stomach hurt too much. :(

Thankful I was able to visit the factory a couple times and had the honor of meeting Sheldon.

We love you Big Dog Motorcycles

Maybe one positive from this is that now that BDM has closed its doors Parts may be made from other companies to fulfill a need for parts. our bikes may one day be sought after like the Cords and Duesenbergs!!!!!

As long as S&S and Baker are around we should be OK. More so for S&S but don't think there going anywhere. Like others said, the tins will be a problem especially the plastic battery box covers. Better dust off my body hammers and brush up on my metal forming skills.:bang:

Ok, my tissue is soaked....:job: Fuck That! We may very well see BDM rise up from the ashes (Yep, a Dokken fan) and rise again once the economy does pop....only a matter of time....
I would submit that BDM will live on as the bikes just made too big of an impact on the bike community:whoop:
I for one will be buying another one as soon as I find the one I am looking for and I will keep it running and on the road no matter what!:whoop::bang::whoop:
I for one am not convinced that the story is over.....ah yes, I can hear them howling now...:loony:....wait for it!:2thumbs:
:cheers::2thumbs::cheers:

When I find the right deal for another Big Dog, my custom sand rail is gone.
I have had nothing but good times and great reliability with my scoot

Damn where did that thread go about changing the bars and hand controls out to harley style controls. I may need to save that one for later.

I love my bike and it's not going anywhere. My wife was making fun of me the other day because I covered it with a blanket in the garage. I told her she's lucky I don't park it in the living room while I'm gone.
Just to throw it out there, I'm working with a local shop on putting together a package to rewire big dogs for a standard electrical system. Every wire will be ripped out and replaced, new hand controls are required but I think we can keep the bars. In the end you'll have a bike with no proprietary wiring that any mechanic who's familiar with a harley can work on.

The Demise of BDM

Bummer. I have dealt with many pieces of bad news in the last couple of years and this rates up with the tops. I have rarely had such an affinity with a piece of in-animate equipment, but my K9 has grown to be a very special part of my daily routine - even if we aren`t going for a ride. I find that I have to at least touch my bike every day.
The closing of BDM hopefully will not hobble us here at "The Forum" in too bad of a way. Possibly the news will cause our "Dogs" to appreciate in value as some here have expressed. Only time and the stars will tell if that will come true. As others have said: I will enjoy every second that I am able to be with my K9. If the fortunes of life make us the owners of collector motorcycles then all the better. I will be holding on to my Big Dog reguardless of the result, either way.
Big Dogs now, Big Dogs tomorrow, Big Dogs forever!

This sucks. Guess if mine breaks down I'll rip it apart and get rid of all the proprietary shit.

What a bummer! Bought my first Big Dog in Jan 03 and fell in love. I didn't care about the quirks, because overall it was a good bike and to this day I have never pulled up next to one just like it. Bought my K9 last year and was planning to get a bragger (road one and loved it) in a few years.

Big Bear Choppers is still around but they stayed on a smaller scale building only 500 bikes a year and dealing more with kits/rolling chassis. I would be satisfied if BDM could stay in business but have a business model more like them...building a few bikes, but selling kits, rolling chassis and parts. That would be better than nothing. I bet there are a bunch of members who would build one.

Well I for one am a realistic person....well I would like to think......And I seen this one coming for quite some time...After owning my bike since 2007 my warranty program is dealt with inside this website....The percentage of competent guys able to truelly repair our bikes even under warranty from their dealerships was slim but none, yet continually and ongoingly this site has had the information and help to allow anyone regardless of knowledge or mechanical ability to fix the problems that seem to allways plague our bikes...Of course I am sad to see the company go under, but I dont think that puts any fear into my world because I own a BDM........
+2 Well put

Well, for me I have always felt like I had a bike that no other guy in town owned, now I know I probably always will, and that's a good thing. I had started thinking about my next bike, "where do you go from here...K-9...Ridgeback"? hmmm I guess we will have to wait and see. My heart goes to those who lost their jobs, and wish you a fast recovery. On a brighter note... my bracket sucked this year. Congrats Uconn!! It was a March of madness!!!

The Problem with the internet is that its like a bathroom wall

Anybody can write anything with anonymity. The company (and ourselves) are open, and Mary Beth is not giving freebies away behind the shop at 6:30. After a while the rumors get tiresome. BTW - I just got off the phone with Wichita regarding the 3 new 2011 K9-250s I just happily bought! Great bikes at great values.

PS ... The EHC retrofit kit for K9s are in stock, but don't change yours just because somebody had a problem somewhere ....
