If the cost was all the same, Wire Plus, PDM, or rewire the whole thing?

If cost was all the same, would you get a WP, PDM, or Simplified Harley Harness

Man.... just read this whole thread... so the original elctronic control IS going to fail? And the PDM isn't made for '04's. THis gives me somtheing to think about. Maybe the '04 Chopper I am looking at tomorrow has had this replaced. Where would I look to see??

*Edit: Do the '03 Choppers with the carborated engines have a simpler wiring set up?

Simple test:

Turn the key on, then hit "START" without touching anything else.

If the bike starts, it has a Wire Plus Installed. If you have to turn the key on, then hit "RUN" before it will start, then it is the stock electrical system.

Mine is rewired with thicker wires and no confusing ehc and harley controls. Never a problem since. Vote goes to simplified wiring. =)

well gents, I ordered my PDM for the k9. They said it will ship in 2 weeks. Wish me luck. I hope this kills the problems so i can ride off into the sunset or whatever her name is

WIRE + KITS

Trust the Wire Plus kit the warranty is great , do the install your self if you have a brain and can solder a little , you get a color coded schematic and step by step directions, ya I know you say so what it I want an easy way out no problem but if you want to preserve all your electrical functions on your Big Dog for re-sale or just to keep it functioning 100% go with the WIRE + KITS , Custom Motorcycle Parts, Bagger parts, Chopper Parts, Harley wheels, handlebars, grips, mirrors has them for sale for all bikes under Big Dog Electrical Parts.

PDM are now available for the 2004 or will be very shortly.

PDM will change the wiring harness and Hand Control Interface and EHC. The EHC will have a system with fuses and relays. The PDM comes with a complete new wiring harness and will plug the wiring harness into the existing components connectors and thus no splicing, soldering or in some case having to install jumper wire to make up for short wires after cutting off the AMPOL connectors.

BDPP has improved the PDM even more, though having one on for 2 years now, no complaints with mine.

Only thing that is different than original EHC in regards to operation, is the self canceling turn signals, will require one to shut off the turn signal like many other bikes due. If you want self canceling, you can add a relay and module to do such.

What Is The M Unit An Ehc? Trying To Figure Out The Best Way To Do A Rewire.
The M-Unit is made by motogadget and is an "EHC type" replacement. What I mean by that is it uses ground switching for the switches and the built in circuit protection, for better or worse, is like the EHC. There is a decent amount of rewiring involved and the results have been spotty at best.

On the other hand, the ESC is plug-and-play but hasn't been around long enough to prove itself...

All the "kits" on the market today use controllers (like EHC type) to control the bike. So all you are doing is swapping one headache for another. You still have to use BD controls which are almost impossible to get and aren't going to last forever.

Re-wire the bike with a basic chopper kit that doesn't use the controllers and use Harley bars and controls. The cost will be a little more but well worth it down the road. Just my 2 cents...
