If I cut off the transmission mount...

If I cut the transmission mount off a K9, toss the DSSC primary and trans, then get a normal, zero offset RSD primary and RSD trans, bolt it all up, then weld in a new trans mount. Any difference on the Right side at the drive belt will be made up with offset pulley in the front and pulley spacers in the rear. What do you guys think, will it work?

Sounds like a plan with some thought!
As long as the belt rides near the original place so as to clear swingarm tubes and such.

Go for it... Ditch the proprietary BS.

might have a clearance issue with the starter sitting higher on a standard RSD primary???

It's an all or nothing thing, I won't really know if it works until I get started. No way I'll even mess with it until this weather cools off though, it's like 90 degrees and unbearably humid in my shop. All the paper absorbs moisture and keeps the humidity in the building way up. Sul that's the kind of shit I'm wondering about, I wouldn't have even considered that, thanks!

not sure I would start it at all on that basis - certainly not cutting anything. Why do you want to do this Moe?

If the starter does sit higher you can always lift the battery box I suppose - I had to do that when I first put my IST ignition in (back to normal now I don't have the EHC) - no biggey as long as you don't have to lift it too much as the seat then interferes with the battery terminals.

Moe,
I had spoken to Rolling Thunder regarding this when BDM was offering their K9 rolling chassis. YES can be done without effecting any of the geometry. (On a side note and without getting into a debate on a new custom build, moving towards a std RSD was also Baker's preferred approach). I am overseas on vacation, else would give you a call to discuss. May I suggest you give Rolling Thunder a call - (I think the gentleman who I spoke to was Bob , extremely extremely helpful. Remember they once made the K9 frame so have all the specs and info). Good luck and catch up with you soon.

The point is to completely Un-Big Dog a K9. I've got 2 guys who want to do it, so we'll see.
I can understand that to an extent. VERY big step to take if you don't need to right now and no advantage gained as far I can see if nothing is broke. Sorry Moe but I personally whouldn't get involved without a good reason.

Up to you mate

I agree.

Keep the primary and starter but swap out the trans and plate for a baker OD6.

that way your have options for trans brake, hyd clutch, chain drive that fits, etc.....

Might take a drug dealer or crash auction special to experiment upon to perfect the process. It's an interesting idea- two folks already looking at it. Hmmm.
