If I cut off the transmission mount...

It's something to play with during the winter. The actual process isn't that complicated, cut the mount off with a saws-all then weld the new mount in. Rattle can it since you can't see under there anyway. Will the BD primary mate with an OD6 trans? The troublesome starter is definitely on the chopping block so I'd want to get back to an EVO style.

the mounting plate holes and the actuator mount holes are definitely proprietary.

i really doubt they changed the mounting holes for the primary

i wonder if karata's mounting plate is for all dssc's or just BD's?

Just a heads up on this. I have had a couple of calls on this. Like anything, its possible to do. Beware that there are a couple of differences in the system that may or may not have been overlooked.

1) The center distance between engine output shaft and transmission input shaft are different. So the BDM inner primaries are proprietary to the BDM bikes.
2) A RSD transmission has standard H-D primary to transmission mounting holes. Where as the BDM has a Proprietary set up.
3) The BDM proprietary transmission mainshaft length is a lot shorter than a regular RSD. If you look at any other RSD bike you will notice a gap in between the primary and transmission where the left side drive belt would be. Hence the Slam Clutch.
4) Another thing to look at (which some of you mentioned), is the rotated down and to the rear starter location. This will cause oil tank issues for sure. On rigid bikes, you can just fab up a tank for underneath the transmission. Rolling Thunder does this on some of their frames.

Just a couple of my thoughts. Pretty interesting thread. Keep it up guys!!
Let me know if you have any questions. I will try and follow this.

Thanks Scott. So the BD primary has to go for sure, but it was already coming off. No sense in doing this if you're still stuck buying a BD or Karata primary. If you rewire the bike you won't have the 10 lbs of electronics bullshit stuffed into the battery box area, so that can be modified to accommodate the taller starter.

a great read - thanks Scott :2thumbs:

so basically, you need an entirely new primary including all the internals, an entirely new transmission, a new starter and need to cut out the transmission plate and weld in a new one. Then, because the starter will sit in a different position you may run into clearance issues with the battery box, the seat and the oil tank. Other than all that its a simple job!

Way I see it, the DSSC system is a good system - its just that spare and replacement parts have to be the same as what's on there now.

Am I wrong?
