How to Set Front Brake Switch Magnet

So I broke the magnet that is mounted on the hand control. Snapped it right in half I managed to find it on the shop floor and glued it back on. The wire is connected to the switch and the magnet is glued into the control. It may be broken or missing causing you issues. The wire slides in and out and you need to move it out until brake lights turn off, slide it in slowly until brake light turn on then back off real slow until lights are off again and tighten the set screw. That way once you pull the lever a bit brake lights come on.

In regards to using the left control on the right side figured I would just respond in this post verse the PM. I just want to be clear I never needed to do it I just used the left on the right for trouble shooting. However I realized theoretically you can do it although the harness is going to upside down and I font think you have enough slack in the wiring to make it fit. You would have to add 2" of wire to the hand control and then stuffing that all in would be a challenge. It's been a few years since I posted that and I'd have to pull my spare switches to check them again but I think i said you could solder the wire lead for the brake onto the left PCB as well.

I was searching for info on the brake Hand Grip magnet and came across your post. I've got both controls disassembled and noticed my magnet was worn pretty bad. Ordered a new one from Curtis today and was trying to figure out how to get it out. Your post said it's glued? Will a pair of needle nose pliers pull out the old one? I'm a little concerned it might break off. Appreciate the help.

The Brake Switch has the tiny Allen...but there isn't a slot for the magnet. Doesn't make sense unless an Allen could easily crush the magnet. So, although a little odd, it may be glued in. I just don't want to try pulling it out and possibly bust it off inside.

I'm thinking very few of the guys on the site have replaced one. I've never paid any attention to it either.

When you buy a new hand Control, all the pictures show the magnet already installed. I'd just order a new one but I've already had this one chromed.

I see the small Allen on the part of the switch that the wires are connected connected. But the piece I'm referring to is mounted towards the top of the hand lever (Black...about twice the diameter of a pencil lead) and I don't see any allen opening.

Another delay. I ordered a set of Accutronix Hand Grips for Carb Models. The Grips I received are 1" inside diameter...I need 1 1/8". Has anyone ordered a set...if so where. Accutronix is closed today so I can't reach them until Monday.

I got some on clearance/ close out not long ago from someone I don’t remember who. They were TC Bros billet aluminum grips knurled. Knothead machined them out and put sleeves in them to make them fit right. I really like them but you can’t get the sleeves anymore and without them the grips rattle as they are just a little too big and a little too small for the sleeves anyway. I would use some calipers and get the right ones. Even though it was more work it was worth it. They’re solid billet aluminum which can be polished and I like the size but my hands are big. Can be a little rougher on the hands but I wear gloves so no issues. Good luck with your search.

These are the BDL Tribal Forward Controls I got off ebay (Pic 1) They bolt up perfectly... EXCEPT...there's a large NUT protruding from the backplate 1/4" (Pic 2). Who would design that??? So, I plan to remove the backplate (pic 3) from the control, take it to a shop with a CNC machine and have them duplicate it at 1/4" thicker than the original.
..making the backplate completely flush. Once complete, I'll mount just the backplate to the bike....a little more work is required for a stronger fit. There's a THIRD BOLT HOLE on the MOUNTING BRACKET of the bike. This hole is used to bolt the Big Dog OEM backplate to the bike, which then inserts into the back of the Big Dog Forward Control. I need to bolt the new plate up to the existing 2 bolt holes, mark the third, drill again. Each bolt will have to be ordered 1/4" longer. Once complete, I'll send the new backplate and all the new Bolts for chrome.

Next; I bought Tribal Grips and Pegs for front and back. Grips wouldn't work...CRAP!!! Whose great idea was it to deviate from the STANDARD 1"??? There a 2,000 different Grips for 1", I found 3 for Big Dog. Didn't like any of them but bought a Show Polished set from VCW (I like that guy, really helpful)..Anyway, if you remove the completeOEM Big Dog passenger Peg mounting bracket (2 Bolts) Accutronix makes an adapter that will bolt directly into either of the bolt holes. Just remove the stock bolt from the kit and use one of the longer/stronger Big dog Bolts you removed earlier. (Pic 4). Well...that's it for today.

Looks like there might not be room for the third bolt. Big space cutout on the backplate is probably where the brake cable goes???
