How to Set Front Brake Switch Magnet

How do properly set the magnet? I tried closing the brake and then putting the magnet in until it was slightly above the metal nub in the master cylinder but its not working right. Not sure if its bad or im not setting it properly. Thanks in advance

It took me about half an hour of trial & error to set up mine.... The magnet is static in the lever, you need to play (going forward a little bit every time with the end that sits on the grip side). It has a little set screw to hold that in place.

Thanks Franco, After messing with it for awhile I cant get it to work but i'm also having problems with the buttons on right side not working all the time so I'm starting to think the right board is going. No way I can afford a right pcb board so I'm trying to figure out if I can use a left board as a temp solution, I know I would lose the front brake switch but at least I could ride.

There is an explanation by @Matt Moore (I think) somewhere here in the Forum about how to fix those..... it was something about cutting some small squares of electric tape and placing them between the buttons and the POC (Point Of Contact) with the PCB.

I can´t find the Thread now but hopefully someone will.

I can try to explain it better if you like.

I remember seeing ssomething about that too, i will try it. If i cant get the front nrake switch to work, can i just cut the magnet off and elimate it? I tried just backing it off but it messes with the brake light still.

Another thing is the magnet is not magnetized...i cant pick up a small staple with it when a fridge magnet will so maybe thats the problem.

So I broke the magnet that is mounted on the hand control. Snapped it right in half I managed to find it on the shop floor and glued it back on. The wire is connected to the switch and the magnet is glued into the control. It may be broken or missing causing you issues. The wire slides in and out and you need to move it out until brake lights turn off, slide it in slowly until brake light turn on then back off real slow until lights are off again and tighten the set screw. That way once you pull the lever a bit brake lights come on.

In regards to using the left control on the right side figured I would just respond in this post verse the PM. I just want to be clear I never needed to do it I just used the left on the right for trouble shooting. However I realized theoretically you can do it although the harness is going to upside down and I font think you have enough slack in the wiring to make it fit. You would have to add 2" of wire to the hand control and then stuffing that all in would be a challenge. It's been a few years since I posted that and I'd have to pull my spare switches to check them again but I think i said you could solder the wire lead for the brake onto the left PCB as well.

:agree:

I did glue mine too.

I´ve got pics of the whole mission somewhere in my Hard-Drive.... I will post them tonight.

Don´t panic @MossBerg590 its doable, easy enough! :old2:

BTW, @KaptinAmerika has them.

Thanks guys, i took the magnet off for now since its not magnetized so i dont think its gonna work. Put some tape on the pads on buttons. Hopefully this will work good enough until i get a permanant solution figured out. As far as the slack if i used the left hand pcb. I just wired the thunderheart and left slack in case, so i think i should have enough

I think you misunderstood. It's a reed switch.

The Magnet is a cylinder mounted in the hand control and the switch is on the wire, the switch itself is not magnetized. It triggers when it gets I'm proximity with the magnet.

You talk about this end? That is not magnetic.
As it happens I have an extra right hand board, it is working fine I just had the "condom" broken and replaced the board and buttons... I can send it to you if youurs is broken

Tapio
Yea not a magnet. Honestly I really don't think a reed switch could ever fail wire get cut or pinched more likely than that switch ever going bad.

As you can see the wire has been pinched at some point... But the rip is only on the top insulation.

Tapio
Tapio, that would be awesome! Let me know how much. Yeah i did misunderstand which side was magnetic. Im wondering if mine was shorting out where the wires meet the board.
