HID setup Air ride Equipped bikes

Guys I contacted jake because when I hooked up the HID kit it turned on the key switch waited for the speedo to sweep then hit the start button to get ready to air up. Once I went and hit the high beam switch the headlight went out (as it would without a bulb) the pump clicked but didnt come on. I immediately let the switch go and the light came back on but I couldnt do anything with the bike. I turned off the key and pulled it out and the headlight and speedometer lights still wouldnt go off. I had to do the same thing proflyer did and yank the battery cable to turn it off. I waited a minute rehooked up the battery and tried the sequence again and the same thing happened. I disconnected the battery again reinstalled the old bulb and everything went back to normal. I dont know why it is working on some air ride setups and not others but I will let you know what happens once I get the new harness. I will try the old harness one more time but will wait to air it up after the engine is started to see if that makes a difference if it does I will let you all know if not I will the new harness with the diode and report on that as well. Since Jake has someone running the diode without problems I doubt I will have any.

Hey Lee, you guys have Absinthe over there? If so, maybe we can do some parts swappin'.:D

I am a big Absinthe fan. Import it from Czech mostly or make my own. :2thumbs:

Time to reorder! Gotta keep that creative edge on! :D

HID Electrical Issues

Jake,

I'm having the same issues as others 2006 K-9. Rode today for the first time since installing the HID. When I stopped and turned the key off...all lights except the HID stayed on. Once I unhooked the battery the EHC reset and the bike restarted...only to have the issue replicate itself immediately.

What's the fix?????:bang:

Absinthe Jake you are a man I can hang with. I drank a shitload of it at the Blakes Hotel in London (Lee you may know of it) 170 proof and loved every glass of it. Back then it was illegal to bring back to the states.

The others issues is only the air ride system. The HID, only being low beam, leaves the high beam open. The air ride runs off the high and low beam controls and needs to have the open cuircut closed up. I do not see, you not having air ride, how any issue could be caused by the HID. If you want to answer any ??? about if the HID is causing it, please put your stock bulb back in and see if the issues go back to normal.

Let me know what you come up with.

Jake looks like the air ride guys may need the diode to let the EHC see some load on the system. I have no doubts it works fine just have to get people to tell you if they are running the air ride or not when they buy it. Not any fault of your just or f'd up electrical system. Cant wait till the warrantee runs out to scrap the fucker

Jake / emcclary - I think absinthe is illegal here and if you can get it here I doubt it is the full on stuff you get in the Cech Republic - I've been to Prague and drank the stuff over there and it will strip paint in 5 seconds! What it must do to your inners I do not even want to think about! If you enjoy drinking this stuff you are harder men than me - you lunatics

Jake/emcclary,

There is no need to have to try to get absinthe from overseas. It is now being made in the U. S. and can bought. Some of the best verte is made by St. George Spirits out of California.

Here is a online retailer that had some:

ST GEORGE ABSINTHE 750

Here is the link to St. George Spirits and if you scroll you can see a nice little vide that tell you all about it. \_St. George Spirits_/

The St. George stuff is a verte style and is a little different than most of Czech stuff. Actually much better and more of a classic and superior style.

Have fun!

Jake - Just to confirm, I have an '06 k-9 without the air ride system. However, I am having the same issue as emcclary. The HID appears to be sending my electrical system into a random frenzy, with the only fix to unhook the battery and reset the system - after which the bike will start but when stopped it again goes into a random frenzy....lights on with key out of the ignition.

Put the stock bulb back in and all is fixed! Appears this issue goes beyond bikes with the Air Ride system.

I also agree with emcclary that all bikes might want to hold off on installation until this minor issue is sorted out. The Big Dog was the show of the crowd yesterday....right up until it was loaded on the back of the wrecker!!

Thanks Fiber will have to check that out. Lee I was last in London five years ago and it definitely wasnt illegal then 170 proof will rock your socks if you drink enough of it. Jake got the wiring harness with the diode wont be able to put it in until Wednesday though. Will report on the fix at that time. Thanks for your support on this and I am sure it will work since your bud Matt is running thesame setup without trouble. Just wat to say Jake will go out of his way to help us with any of his parts and I would buy from him again in a minute. :2thumbs:

Jake I will get it in as soon as possible. I think it will be fine based on your info though. I'll see if I can get it done before I have to go out tonight. May have to leave the office early like now.

Jake

Left work early today to get the light installed. I installed the new wiring harness with the doide and turned the key SUCESS!!! I havent had a chance to run the bike except in my garage but the air ride works fine with the engine off or running. I tried it several times each way turning the bike on and off in between and it seems to work fine like we though it would. I do wonder about whether this is a condition that is only affecting later model 06-thru? bikes since Lee's 05 is running fine and Gman had the same issue with a non air ride 06. I dont what could different about them other than the EHC but you seem to have the fix for it. Guess the EHC likes to see some kind of load when the high beam switch is hit to pump up the air ride.

Mine works just like Lee's. Hit the air up (hi button) and the light shuts off while it's airing up. Let go, light comes back on. When you let the air out (low button) light stays on. I've been playin with it for days and it seems fine...I wonder if lee and I have a new flash or a diff efc...06 K9 is my bike
