I have an 07 Mastiff (my pride and joy) with 11,250 miles which were all put on by me except the first 400 miles. the bike has had all the recommended service and more. The rear cyclinder gasket started to leak, which means pulling everything to get to it, okay it is what is. In the process of taking it apart we found that the valve guides are worn beyond limits and the pistons never really seated properly, so I have to have the heads reworked along with the cyclinders, new oversize pistons and and rings, needless to say it is going to be expensive when I can least afford it.

Having said all the negative stuff above I will say this, I LOVE MY DOG! I have a great time the last couple of years with my bike. I have made some great friends and plan on making more!

That's not a very good story, but when you get it back together it should be better than new:2thumbs: Just curious what brand of oil was in it?

That's some bad stuff there! I have similar miles, guess a lot of us could be in the same boat and don't know it. Fingers crossed.
Like your positive outlook though! I think I would feel the same way.

I am going with stiffer springs in the heads, cutting the cyclinders to raise the compression, haven't decided on the cam yet.

Billy, I was running Amsoil in the motor
Sorry to hear your bad news.:( Hope you get it fixed and back on the road again soon!

But now you've got me worried...:willy_nilly:
I switched from Redline and have been running Amsoil in all 3 compartments since my last service.

Sure hope Amsoil wasn't the cause of your engine's demise!!!

The bike had synthetic in it from the start, I just switched to Amsoil a year ago. I bought the bike in April 2009 with only 414 miles, it is a 2007 model so it sat without much use prior to me, maybe that has something to do with the problem.

I will be using a non synthetic oil after the rebuild this time for sure

The '07 should have S&S. Changing out the valve guides isn't that big a deal since you're already in there, but strange that they would wear out at 11K miles. With TP rocker boxes it wouldn't be that strange...

Being an Amsoil Dealer I can tell you it is not the oil. Any name brand synthetic is always betted than a petroleum based oil. However I do agree that break-in should be done on the manufacturers oil as per there recommendation. Raywood uses Amsoil and look at the miles he puts on his scoot. Amsoil, Mobil1, Pennzoil....all great synthetics.:2thumbs:

Sorry to hear I can't even imagine. But the big unknown appears to be how the bike was run for that first 414 miles. The damage may have started in those miles??

I have an 07 and I ran reg oil for the 500mi and the first 3000mi then switched to amsoil and now have 18100mi and no problems! Its not the oil!!! its what happens to a motor when it sits for yrs on end and never gets started!!
