how many of these wheels were indeed affected by this, does anybody know? i mean the bikes are 4 years old why now, this is something that should have been caught in the begining.

If it were me, I would give the wheel a good inspection and if nothing is really obvious, put it on the bike and ride that damn wheel. Screw the recall. Yes it is a risk, but how many of these wheels have actually failed???

could they not be checked or inspected to see if they do or do not meet the engineered specifications for the wheel with the chrome in place. iow, perhaps there is no problem with your wheel and therefore may be no need for the drama herein? just thinking, seems logical to me. Course there is always the 'bah you suck' route I guess too...:D

I received a letter today from Big Dog regarding the wheel problem. The last paragraph staed that I would be receiving a "new rear wheel". I wonder if the design will be similar, will it be chrome, or polished. Interesting.... I sure am glad that rim has stayed together through all the hell I have put it through. I have made some very hard pulls froma roll and a dead stop and I have never had a problem. I periodically check the torque on the hub assembly as well due to there once was a recall on the bolts loosening on the rear hub. I noticed on the newer rims that the edges are rounded .

Sorry for the trouble but i bet if you call back and talk to someone else you will get help remember who you talked to has a boss and maybe next time you call you will get a hold of someone in her position that will help.I would have done the same thing you did then call the next day hell you might be able to keep the chrome wheels and score a new set might work out good for you....Anyway Good luck...

why'd ya tell em you chromed them. do they require you to return the wheel? I'd think if it's a recall they would all be covered and replaced... isn't that what happens with a recall?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion but they are offering to replace the wheel for free, yes your out the chrome and I understand your frustration but it didnt come that way and you honestly cant expect them to pay for your modifications.
I think if you call someone and are rude that you cant expect to get anything but the same in response, not saying anyone did this but I found that if your polite you tend to get a lot more accomplished.

thanks guys, does anybody know if the dealer will just give us the wheel or do they need the old one and have to install the new one,any dealers out here reading this?

I would be very surprised if they let the old wheels stay out there for safety reasons alone.

Keep in mind that Big Dog did not manufacture the wheels. They will probably buy the new wheel up front, swap it out with the recalled units and send the bad wheel back to get reimbursed for the new one.

This is how it works in my line of work.

Try calling Performance Machine, if that is who made your wheels, about the situation and maybe they will step up.

They are the ones who fucked up in the first place.

YOu could have the rear wheel xrayed to see if there is a problem. Then you have to know someone that can do it for you
