Need to replace ignition switch on 05 Pitbull. It appears I'll have to remove the tank to access the coil cover bolts? Anyone give me the run down on the easiest way to remove the tank? Would like to learn from someone elses mistakes. I searched the forum but could'nt find anything on tank removal.

Thanks

I removed my tanks to have them painted, it was over 3 years ago, but i don't remember anything difficult about it. remove the pastic center piece first, and you should find the bolts for the tank right there.

I would bet you find it rather easy. good luck to you.

If your tanks are not empty be sure to put a clamp on the crossover line. If not you end up with gas everywhere. Be sure to turn the petcock to the off position also.Pull the center and lower bolt then make sure you have a good hold on the tank when you remove the last bolt up front. Tank should almost fall off in your hands.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds fairly simple. I might shoot some pics as I do it and post for the next guy.

I had a 05 Pitbull and removed the coil cover several times with out removing the tanks. I removed the top motor-mount bolt that goes from the frame to the coil bracket and the two bolts the mount into the cyl head. This gave me acces to the coil, switch and the carburator and manifold bolts as well (they were what I was trying to get to, to begin with.
If I remember correctly I used the correct size hex/allen socket (5/16") i think and a ratcheting box end wrench. I put the hex socket thru the ratching wrench so I had plenty of clearance and did not have to use a regular ratchet.

I did the same. I did not need to remove the tank to replace the Ing. Just take your time.

Even better. Ill give it a try. Just didn't look like enough room between the tank and bolt head. Thanks.
