Energy One

I installed my Medallion Speedo yesterday and everything appeared to go smooth. I was hoping to get out on the road and test it but when I start the bike it doesn't appear to be working correctly. I installed as per the direction for a 2009 Big Dog Ridgeback.

Steps
1. Remove Tank
2. Remove Old speedo
3. Remove three wire connector
4. Plug Green wire into slot 3 of the new 4 pin connector
5. Run line from battery + side to slot 4 in 4 pin connector
6. Install Speedo

This is what happens when I turn on the Bike without starting
1. Big Dog light up for about 3 seconds and I can go thru the setting on each button.
2. Left signal flashes in Speedo but not the right
3. If I turn on the Hi beam the right signal light comes on.

If I turn the bike the Speedo goes dark but the Light signal light will still work and not the right. The Hi beam still lights the right signal turn. I get NO RPM and haven't tested the speed.

Any help please.

What I've done to trouble shoot this so far.

Remove the speedo from housing to DOUBLE CHECK the two wire connections in the 4 pin connector. As per the instructions the GREEN wire is in slot 3, and you can clearly see on the other side from the Speedo that that wire is also GREEN. I DOUBLE CHECKED the power wire to the + side of the battery to slut 4 on the pin connector. Also checking the Speedo side which is RED. If I disconnect the 4 pin connector and turn on the bike the speedo gets NO POWER. If I disconnect the 8 pin connector with just the power one in the speedo gets power but NOTHING works. I pulled the 12 pin connector from the Speedo to ensure is was seated correctly and in securely. Tried the Speedo and again and the same thing happens. Everything lights up correctly when you turn the power on without the bike running. Left signal light flashes correctly in the Speedo but right doesn't. If I hit the HI Beam switch the right flasher lights up. Hitting the right signal switch does nothing. If I start the bike the Speedo goes dark and the Digital Display Windows goes dark. The left flasher still works and the HI Bean switch will still turn on the right light in the Speedo. (No, it doesn't light the right signal light. Just in the Speedo the right signal light comes on)

PLEASE someone help me here or guide me to someone who can. This was a 475 Birthday gift from my wife that appears to be missed wired or bad. And can't go back to my old Speedo cause I had to break the 3 pin connector to install the new 4 pin one.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you still running your EHC or have you switched to a PDM or WP?
If EHC have you checked your EHC for error lights while doing all this.
Since you had your tank off did you go through all the circuits and check to make sure everything was tight, dielectric greased and free of scuffing or grounding?

The Bike only has about 3500 miles on it and still has the old EHC unit. Everything was working fine up until the point I changed the Speedo. I would think that if the flashers were working correctly with the old unit that they should be working with the new one. Same with the HI Beam lighting up the right flasher light in the speedo.

But thanks I'll check the EHC connections and see what happens.

OK looking closely with both speedo in front of me this is what I found and I feel is in question. When looking from the back of the 8 pin connector with the locking tab on top I have the following colored wires in this order:

Old Speedo going from top left to right

1. Green 2. Purple 3. Orange 4. Black
5. Yellow 6. Gray 7. Blue 8. Red

On new Medallion Speedo from top left to right

1. Green 2. Purple 3. Orange 4. Black
5. Red 6. Blue 7. Brown 8. Yellow

Something doesn’t appear to be right here. If you have a Medallion Speedo can you please look at the 8 pin connector and see if your wires are set the same. If slut 5 on the old speedo is yellow shouldn’t slut 5 on the Medallion also be yellow????? Same on slut 8 which is red on the old speedo and yellow on the Medallion. The blue are mixed up to and the old speedo has a gray instead of a brown.

It appears that maybe the Medallion wiring harness maybe miss wired.

ANY HELP IS WELCOMED PLEASE

Do you think it is possible that your old tach came off a different bike. the grey wire on my efi bike is for the check engine light.
