The way I look at it- These are performance machines and they're going to have more issues than other bikes. These forums + the fact that BD stands behind there stuff is the reason why I got my BD.

I seriously looked at american ironhorse and BBC before getting my BD. Look at how f'ed up those companies are right now. I'd rather be dealing with a cracked side cover than worrying if the neck on the BBC I'm riding is going to snap in half.


I was born to ride. That's all it boils down to for me folks :up: And I'd ride with any and all of you anytime because you were born to ride too

With that said- the day I don't ride a BD is the day you pry it from my cold dead hands


The advice + wisdom I have been given about bikes on these forums from you guys has been invaluable to me. I know there are a few forum oldies in here that remember the 'old' forum. Lets not let things go there with this one.

Bullshit thread? I beg to differ. I think this needed to be said. Chris tends to dramatize all his posts and in this case he tried to get attention by keeping his "change-up" post a Drama and a big Secret to reel all you groupies in (and a lot of you took it "hook, line, and sinker)!

It was a little dramatized but it was all in fun... a lighten up would be in order.

Actually many here would call it a "Change-DOWN" and call him something of a traitor for jumping ship to the motor company AND then ragging on BDM as if it is their fault. But Chris wants not just himself, but all of us to agree with him that his GRAND change-up is justified and right and he would like to convince a lot of us to do the same. Well not me!

I don't need people to agree with the change, but just showing reasons, cause people ask.

Now Lee, you said Gas was just voicing an opinion. Yes and I respect his opinion (I have made that clear). But re-read his post and really look at the way he did it. And ask yourself if he gave BDM a fair shake on a public forum (named Big Dog Biker) at an economic time when the company is struggling. Did he give THIS website and the great people who administer it a fair shake? And consider that Gas has built a following and has influence (groupies?) on this site.

A fair shake here? Seroiusly? I tend to be modest about thing so this will be out of character. I've done more for this site than any other regular poster. Do you know how long it took me to compose the "fork service how to"? Try 2+ hrs. For who? Not for me, I already did the job.

Is the company finacial status suppose to change my outlook on the product? I don't like Dodge's but if they are doing bad and asking for a bail out I can't say that? Just trying to understand that aspect.

And speaking of his influence and following, I thought long and hard before I started this thread because I knew a lot of you worshipped (maybe not the right word) him and hung on every word he said in his posts. And I would be the first to say that many (maybe not all) of his posts rightfully earned him this respect.

SOoo, do I dare post ANYTHING anti Gas Man??? for fear of being "tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail"! I almost didn't. But felt strongly about what I had to say. One member posted "F--k him" which I took as one of my feared "how dare you say ANYTHING against our beloved Gas Man" criticisms. (I now have reason to believe that I may have been mistaken about who exactly that was directed at). There have been several shots at me and now yours Lee (maybe you are one of the groupies too).

NO, I don't think I am being hypocritical. I only meant I would "walk" (leave this site) if Gas Man's following ran me off. I HAVE NOT sensed that that has happened.

I remember all of us, asking you to stay after you first introduced yourself. You said you wouldn't fit in cause you only had a drivetrain from BDM. But it was all of us that said, no stay, it don't matter what you ride. Its all good in our hood. I wouldn't think anybody here would run off anybody.

Just trying to tell it the way I see it.

As i said before... Without Harley Davidson there would be no Big Dog. Besides, WHO GIVES A FUCK!!! Gas Man, you ride whatever the fuck you want, whatever makes you happy! I have had no major issues with my Big Dog (knock on wood) however i have a few buddies that ride Dogs and have had a shitload of problems. It's 6 to one a half dozen to the other. Whatever you choose to ride you could have problems. I own a 1975 FXE Superglide. For those of you who don't know, this is when HD was owned by AMF. Did anyone ever hear people call HD's junk because they dripped oil everywhere? well the years HD was run by AMF is where this came from. My shovel and i share a love/hate relationship. Some people would give in and switch to different brand, myself being the glutton that i am choose to stick it out. My point is that every company has good years and bad, upsides and downsides but the reality of it all is: - BIG DOG - AMERICAN IRON HORSE - BIG BEAR - BMC - WEST COAST CHOPPERS - INDIAN LARRY - PEREWITZ - CHOPPERS INC. - all of them stem from the Harley Davidson legacy and the evolution of the AMERICAN made V Twin motorcycle. So calling a fella who trades a BDM in for a HD a "down grade" or whatever the fuck was said is ludicrous. I think it's more like going back to your roots, to the original, the one that made choppers of all kinds possible. So rock on Gas Man and congratulations on your 2 new HOGS. Hope you stick around on the site.

And whats wrong with writing a check for $30,000 and buying a great bike but not being a so called biker? If a biker has your stupid opinions, I will never want to be a biker. Really... bashing? I really don't think it was that. Just stating some of my issues and concerns. The guy that comes on and screams and yells about how much a POS it is, and I will never and I am sueing, ect ect... that is bashing and ranting. I was just stating my reasoning. This is my only hitch on this topic here. I will state again...

I really don't think that i expressed any "stupid opinions". It's a fact that every Big Dog and all of the custom bikes are based on Harleys. So by saying going from a BDM to a HD is a down grade is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. And there is nothing wrong with writing a check for $30000 and buying a great bike. I have no problem with that. However i do have a problem with some stupid rich fuck buying a $30000 motorcycle and then flapping his gums about how it's the best ever built. Every one of us owes a great deal of respect to Harley Davidson because they are the originators of the american made V twin motorcycle. Your Big Dog is made from after market HD parts. Parts that were meant to upgrade HD's. And i don't give a fuck about the label "BIKER". means nothing! I just think it's BULLSHIT that a thread was started because a man who did more to his Big Dog than any other person on this sight, a man that clearly tries to help beginners with their problems and will answer any question (no matter how stupid), is being persecuted on this sight for buying a Harley Davidson. We all ride HD based machines. Our Dogs are Harley based, they're just on the radical chopper or prostreet end of the spectrum. Gas Man did all he could to his Dog and in the end he felt it was unreliable and wanted something he could just hop on and ride, do you really blame him for that? He didn't bash anything he stated facts, Let's face it BDM is struggling right now. Their motors are so restricted to meet EPA guidelines that when you try to make them run the way they should, you run into problems. That sir is a fact and if the people aren't smart enough to realize it then i guess they are all a bunch of morons.
And by the way, why is it that the one who started this thread has a chopper (i belive it was built by him) and 2 harleys listed under his avatar in the My Bike: section. He must think a good thing or two about HD to go out and buy 2 of them.
once again congrats Gas Man on the new bikes. I don't think i'm one of your "groupies" but i do think you made a hell of a bike out of your Dog and i can clearly see that you are willing to help anyone or at least point them in the right direction. For this i believe the members on this forum should be grateful.
