HEARTBURN is caused by GAS

As once said a few years ago: CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? Damn the man shouldnt take a Rodney King beat down just because he chose to ride a different horse. Shit we all have a right to spend our hard earned money any way we want as we also have the right to ride and say what we want. Bikers have and will always be a unique bunch of individuals, with a wide view on what looks good and what doesnt. RIDE HARD AND LIVE LONG, is my wish to all. :flag:

I think that I presented my case being frank on why I made my choice. I don't believe I was being down right overly negative. For respect to you Shovel I apologize if it came off that way.

Chris, I don't really feel there is a need for apologies from either one of us. Freedom of speech is paramount and opinions should be valued. If an apology is in order from me then my apology to you is given genuinely and sincerley.

But I don't stand alone here with some negative feelings about certain aspects of bdm parts, look at what some members do just to get away from them. Alhall just spent hundreds of dollars and lots of time on his bike to take it from a running EHC bike to a EHC-less running bike. Hundreds of dollars to just have a running bike again at the end of the day. Why? To rid himself of the "pending doom" (as I've been coined for recently) with the EHC. Jake himself has damn near had EHC-less tatooed on his forehead for months now. These are just more examples to support what I've said.

I agree completely, thus the harley wiring on my chopper and me still scratching my head about how to keep my K-9 project bike pretty much stock, use the BDM controls, and EHC yes or no???

I have said V&H is crap too.

I have V&H pipes on my '98 springer, knocked the baffles out of them 25,000 miles ago. Still love em and love the sound.

Should I be drug out in front of the firing squad for that too?

Geeze, I DIDN't do THAT!

And Chris, with all your other issues with dependability you must forget I am a long time owner of a HD Shovelhead!

And I have built a Custom ground up chopper and after a year's riding I can say it is very dependable.

Again I have utmost respect for your opinions and your knowledge. My only issue was the way you presented the thread and the "heartburn" it caused many of us. (After all many of us thought you were a Big Dog man forever in spite of all the problems. Did you ever think about what you would be doing now if you hadn't done so many changes to your Big Dog?)

Look, all this bickering back and forth needs to stop. You guys are acting llike a bunch of bitches. If Gas Man wants to get a HD "so fucking what"! ALL OF YOU STOOPS SAYING IT'S A DOWNGRADE ARE FUCKING MORONS. YOU GUYS DO REALIZE THAT YOUR BIG DOGS OUR BIG DOGS ARE TURN KEY CUSTOMS, RIGHT. IF THERE NEVER WAS A HARLEY DAVIDSON CHANCES ARE THER NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG DOG. OUR BIG DOGS COME STOCK THE WAY PEOPLE USED TO CUSTOMIZE THEIR HARLEYS. And as far as reliability goes with BIG DOGS, i think Gas is right. They are great to look at but whats the point if it dont run. I personally have an '03 Chopper, which in '03 was in a sense made from all of the high end aftermarket HD parts like Baker,S&S,Thunderheart, PM. Do you guys think there would be these parts manufacturers without HD. My DOG is a customized Harley made from all aftermarket parts. i can retro fit or go to an HD stealership and get parts for it. You guys with the newer Dogs can't because of all of the proprietary shit on them, and that's where I believe BDM went wrong.
This is posted with no ill feelings about BDM. And i mean no offense to any one on this site either. That said if i offended you, FUCK YOU, i don't care. There are a lot of RUBS on this site who claim to be bikers, who are acting like bitches. $30000 and 30000miles don't make you a biker. HD is still the greatest motorcycle ever manufactured and always will be. They are an american legend and without them you beloved choppers would never be. that said, congrats Gas and good luck with your HOG

Wow, life is about change and no I ain't no Obamasheep. Look ride what you want, just ride. In my stable I've got a K9 (2008), V-Rod and the wife's sportster. I love ridin' them all, yes even the sportster. Been ridin' for 30+ years and have owned and ridin' them all from Kawa's, Honda's, Yama's, Big Bear, Harley and now Big Dog. They all have issues from time to time some more than others. If I would have based my choice on the V-Rod from the 1130cc site I wouldn't have loaned myself the money from my 401k to buy it. The V-Rod has been pretty much trouble free and only one hole for fluids is great. I hope I have good luck with the K9 but if not it was free anyway. My best bud came into some money and bought himself a BigBear Pro Street Sled, my K9 and the wife's Sportster. So even if I have problems, got the warranty, a cell phone, my buddy's bike hauler, and a bike shop less than a qtr mile from the house. If I had spent the 30G's on the K9, I think I'd have a diff perspective if I start having problems (besides the first ride carb adjustment that I already had to do). I hope you don't leave the site Chris 'cause "you got a lifetime of knowledge". Bottom line two wheels are better than four whatever they are. Ride on, no brand biggot here. The K9 ain't leavin the stable but the next bike will be a HD Rocker for the wife.

I don't get what the big deal is really. If its got two wheels, and there is no snow on the ground, ride the damn thing and be happy you get to enjoy it.

We all have our personal opinions about what looks good, and what runs good, etc, but if all bikes looked like the one you own (whoever it is that has a problem with it), it would be a very boring world. Originality is good. For example, while I personally don't care for bags on a chopper, it still adds to providing more two wheeled variety out there on the road, right?

Its all good.

I have to agree that most of your complaints are from your own customization. I can see why some of these guys are pissed at you. Blaming it on the product and not the aftermarket parts or installation. You are never going to convice most of these guys that you made a good move regardless of what you say. The sooner you stop trying to justify your decision, the sooner it will all be forgotton. Personally, I don't care if you ride a honda. You have been good to me and countless others on the site. Give him a little slack. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.

Weell thanks for giving me a little something to read. I alsways seem to miss the other good ones.

I wish GasMan much luck with his new rides and hopefully we will still see him around here on the site and also on the road. I know he has helped many and I am sure he is very well appreciated for such.

For some of the reason particulary in the unreliability part, I would have to disagree, but I base that on my ride and not his. I do beleave that Vegas summed it up best though. Even on eo fht ereplies that GM made on the ther other thread indicates that some of the problems were due to his own wrenching.

All said, many new people or people that are interested and maybe leaning towards BD come on here and some may take it away that all are problems and totatly unreliable. Can not speak for others but I have the dreaded 2005 model and it has never let me down, never left me stranded and always gave me enjoyment.

I have never shyed away from getting on it and going for a ride and have shared the road with many on here including making hundred of mile trips to have the pleasure of doing so and having them do the same. My only real issue was back when new, had a starter leak and the dealer took care of that, 3 years and many miles later, still on the changed one with no problems.

Never had any issue with the EHC and only changed my original to the newest style last year. The reason was that I broke a pin while doing some greasing of the pins with di-electric and thus the oil pressure indicator light did not work. NEver felt that it was going to fail anyday, no do I now.

Did have my original speedometer changed out but it was due to me knocking the rubber cover with fat finger syndrome and they covered under warranty. I also change that out from where I f up the tach ring once from over tighten during a re-assembly (the tach ring not the speedo). All due to my faults. Have had the dancing light from it getting wet on occasion especially after a hard rain, but never did it quit and it always dried out. That has been rare since I covered I water proofed it better (but then again I did end up breaking a pin on the EHC), and it has been rode in the rain since and will again.

Yes I did have the heads changed, but to be truthful they may have gone many years more without any problems, do not know, just know that they were at their limits per specs and BDM changed them out under warranty with all S & S parts and I thank them for it.

In short other than a S&S 600 cam, K & N filter, Mean Mother Pipes (which I have had to fix the bracket multiple time MM Super Trap crap not BDM), basically stock.

I do about 75% of my own maintenance, follow the recommendation and keep the fluids to what BDM recommends with exception of using Mobil 1 (which meet their requirments).

Is it the fastest thing out there, NO. Does it have all the mods NO, would I like to do more with it, Maybe, as is do I have any hesitation to get on it and go anywhere without a concern as many on here have be it the king of mileage Raywood, or my man Hoat doing the perimeter last year, or riding buds Chacha, Luphole, BiGBlue and many other that think nothing of going for a 400 mile or more ride jsut to share the road with others including some good riding buds that will ride down on short notice from up north to ride. In short no hesitation at all.

So GasMan enjoy the new ride and the same to the wife and love to see you stick around and more importantly share the road someday. That all said would have to disagree, or at least in my case, that BDM is unreliable anymore that others I have own and have no hesitation to get on it when I can and go where ever the road allows.

For any new folks thinking aobut BDM, my recommendation is the same as many others have indicated, it is not a Honda, does take more maintenance and high cost in upkeep. That said if you take care of it, watch the mods and be ready to live with the pros and cons of such mods, I am sure that if you go with BDM; you will be very happy with your choice as tha vast majority of memeber on here are as well as so many out on the roads that never have been to this site.

Look forward to sharing the roads with many next time I am home, be it rain or shine (of course as many of you know, more than likely if it is with me, there will rain. Safe and enjoyble riding to all.

WELCOME BACK FIBER!

written like like the fiber of old. Grim would of been proud!

i can understand with Shovel with this flip flop, truth be spoken word, of our 30 year old geezer gliding riding stenographer oracle.

it wouldn't be bad if he didnt make a spectacle of every tool he pics up or toilet he plunges. but if he's gonna put up for discussion these tidbits of his daily life then he's gonna get opinions good or bad.

the first post here was Shovels opinion.

LONG LIVE CHOPPERS!!!
I am not a wrench head and have
had my share of problems with my
k9!BUT!!!!!!!!! It still makes ALL of
the HD bikes look bad. Example:
I was in a bike shop/bar with about
sixteen other people having a beer
when one man said out loud I would not have
that peace of shit chopper out there.
I did not say anything at first just let
him run his mouth off about my bike.
Then I asked him which bike out there
was his, he said the black HD. I said
which one they all look the same.
he said the tenth bike down from the
chopper. I said that funny and just laughed!!!
He asked what's funny? I said look out
there nobody is standing around your
HD or any of the others, but about ten
people are standing around my bike
the Chopper and are talking about how
bad ass it is. He did not say anything
else and got on his bike to leave and
it would not start!!!! I got on
my bike and road off into the sun
with a big smile on my face!!!

example 2:
I had to have my bike towed
home one day and was hot:angry:
about it breaking down
on me. Riding in the tow truck
I asked how many bikes have
you had to tow home? He said
don't feel bad I have had to tow
alot of bikes home and most of them
have been HD's. he said that HD's
have not been the same since
the early 90's the new ones
seam to have alot of problems.
That made me feel alot better
about my bike and the problems
I have been having. :2thumbs:

Marv,

Yea got a little winded on that one, but hey got a decent internet connections tonight, it has been a slow day and other than that pretty much what you said.

The only bad thing is that my grammer sucks (as always) and the typos are high, but it is not the best conditions for working off a laptop over here.

Grim,

Still have his address and occasionaly get an email from him. Last I heard he was doing good but has been busy. I can try to route him up when I get back in the area and see if he would want to join, let me know for I never did get all the 411 of why he quit posting. May be a back story I am not aware of.

Anyway enough of this crap, it is getting late here and I need to get off and hit the sack and then get up in the morning and try to look like I am working (even if I may not be) so that they keep the check coming.

As before best to you and the family and hope all is well and life is treating you good.

what a bullshit thread. Shovel - no disrespect to you but you say if someone has a pop at you for this you will walk because you are only voicing an opinion. What do you think Gas was doing? A bit hypocritical don't you think? And if anyone has heartache, or whatever word was used, because Gas will no longer be riding a big dog, needs to grow up a bit. And Lars, your post is a fucking disgrace.
