Weell thanks for giving me a little something to read. I alsways seem to miss the other good ones.
I wish GasMan much luck with his new rides and hopefully we will still see him around here on the site and also on the road. I know he has helped many and I am sure he is very well appreciated for such.
For some of the reason particulary in the unreliability part, I would have to disagree, but I base that on my ride and not his. I do beleave that Vegas summed it up best though. Even on eo fht ereplies that GM made on the ther other thread indicates that some of the problems were due to his own wrenching.
All said, many new people or people that are interested and maybe leaning towards BD come on here and some may take it away that all are problems and totatly unreliable. Can not speak for others but I have the dreaded 2005 model and it has never let me down, never left me stranded and always gave me enjoyment.
I have never shyed away from getting on it and going for a ride and have shared the road with many on here including making hundred of mile trips to have the pleasure of doing so and having them do the same. My only real issue was back when new, had a starter leak and the dealer took care of that, 3 years and many miles later, still on the changed one with no problems.
Never had any issue with the EHC and only changed my original to the newest style last year. The reason was that I broke a pin while doing some greasing of the pins with di-electric and thus the oil pressure indicator light did not work. NEver felt that it was going to fail anyday, no do I now.
Did have my original speedometer changed out but it was due to me knocking the rubber cover with fat finger syndrome and they covered under warranty. I also change that out from where I f up the tach ring once from over tighten during a re-assembly (the tach ring not the speedo). All due to my faults. Have had the dancing light from it getting wet on occasion especially after a hard rain, but never did it quit and it always dried out. That has been rare since I covered I water proofed it better (but then again I did end up breaking a pin on the EHC), and it has been rode in the rain since and will again.
Yes I did have the heads changed, but to be truthful they may have gone many years more without any problems, do not know, just know that they were at their limits per specs and BDM changed them out under warranty with all S & S parts and I thank them for it.
In short other than a S&S 600 cam, K & N filter, Mean Mother Pipes (which I have had to fix the bracket multiple time MM Super Trap crap not BDM), basically stock.
I do about 75% of my own maintenance, follow the recommendation and keep the fluids to what BDM recommends with exception of using Mobil 1 (which meet their requirments).
Is it the fastest thing out there, NO. Does it have all the mods NO, would I like to do more with it, Maybe, as is do I have any hesitation to get on it and go anywhere without a concern as many on here have be it the king of mileage Raywood, or my man Hoat doing the perimeter last year, or riding buds Chacha, Luphole, BiGBlue and many other that think nothing of going for a 400 mile or more ride jsut to share the road with others including some good riding buds that will ride down on short notice from up north to ride. In short no hesitation at all.
So GasMan enjoy the new ride and the same to the wife and love to see you stick around and more importantly share the road someday. That all said would have to disagree, or at least in my case, that BDM is unreliable anymore that others I have own and have no hesitation to get on it when I can and go where ever the road allows.
For any new folks thinking aobut BDM, my recommendation is the same as many others have indicated, it is not a Honda, does take more maintenance and high cost in upkeep. That said if you take care of it, watch the mods and be ready to live with the pros and cons of such mods, I am sure that if you go with BDM; you will be very happy with your choice as tha vast majority of memeber on here are as well as so many out on the roads that never have been to this site.
Look forward to sharing the roads with many next time I am home, be it rain or shine (of course as many of you know, more than likely if it is with me, there will rain. Safe and enjoyble riding to all.
