Grim Reaper Paint Job

Ed, once again a masterpiece. You should be touring and making some big bucks in your down time (if you have any) conducting airbrush seminars. Your work far exceeds some of the other big names in the industry, you just need the marketing now!

Knotso, would they let me do a paint job like this? No, not black and grey. Unless requested by the client. Another artist once did a beautiful "vintage" looking pin-up in black and greys. The sales team rejected it, and made him re-do it in color, destroying the look.
Do they do jobs like this today? No. They currently have no one capable of work like this. They fired or laid off the few guys that could come close. Even when things were going good, I was the only one doing work like this.
If a buyer WANTED that kind of detail? He's SOL. Refer to above.
These are NOT my jilted opinions, it's the pure and simple facts. If you want crazy artwork from the factory, you're gonna be dissapointed.
The talent simply isn't there anymore. Fact. It's sad really. They build really beautiful bikes.
I will totally back Ed on this one. Any of the big names won't do work like this because they can't put it on a mass production line. They like the "turn the machine on and forget it" approach. This project that Ed has done has the spirit and integrity of the artist painted into it. I am sure Ed will agree with me here when I say each project takes a little part of the artist with it. This is something you will never be able to find with the big names and it's sad. If you are like me, you have postpartum syndrome with each piece. Fantastic work Ed. I love seeing your new projects and I use them as inspiration for my seats!

Thanks Warhorse, and yes I am sad to see a project leave my shop when it's done. It's like raising a child in a way. You pour so much of yourself into this "creation". Most people don't understand. I think about what I'm doing in my waking moments, and as I drift of to sleep. I'm excited to get back on it the next day. I form a relationship with the piece that I'm working on. I'm with it more than I'm with my family. That's what people are buying from me. That love for what I do, and how it comes across in my work.
So it's no wonder I couldn't survive at Bigdog. I care too much what my work looks like be a cookie-cutter robot.

I wish I had more money.
On the same token dosn't it make you feel great knowing that you are about to make some ones day by doing just that.

Oh absolutely! I love making my clients happy. I think you should go beyond their expectations, and not just doing what I have to to get the job out of my sight!
Of course getting paid is a plus too!

Here is some more progress. The tank is cleared and buffed (although I haven't downloaded buffed pix yet). These pics are before buffing. Already started on the rear fender. First color done. More to come...

Yeah, there's places where the artwork kind-of phases in and out. I didn't want to completely cover (dominate) the base color of the bike.
