Got Head?

I am using a computer w/o spell check available so I appoligize for any errors in advance. For those of you who have had cylinder and head work done, I have some questions.

My mechanic informed me of some disturbing findings while working on my bike.

There is a 0.005" lip on the bottom of the cylinders that didn't allow them to seat properly on the case, and actually caused wear marks on the case itself. My mechanic was surprised that the bike never leaked oil due to this.

The back cylinder was 0.005" taller then the front.

The bottom piston rings were worn completely smooth while the top kept its tapered edge.

My intake valves were 2.000" stock, going against Big Dog specs.

The push rods had worn the rocker arms almost through the oiler hole on the intake side.

Have any of you experienced any of this? He is going to take care of the issues, but I am still surprised.

I know nothing about cylinders but doesn't sound good. You say your mechanic is going to take care of it??? Is the bike under warranty? Did you contact BDM?

I think his bike is heavily modded, hence the problems. But I like his thought process, it looks like a dog; but runs fast as a rocket. Good luck getting that thing up and runnin again.

I have had mine torn down to do some head work and changed to S&S rocker boxes and some other preformance work. Sounds like someone really screwed this thing up. If you haven't done any thing that would void the warranty I would contact BD.

Well, no the bike is not under warranty, but what surprises me is the fact that many of the issues were apparently casting flaws. Seriously, how does one allow a motor through quality control with some of these errors? As far as the rocker arms, they WERE the S&S ones. I am just glad everything will be fixed and hopefully the bike will run well now. I am hoping for about 120/120.
