So my tach is jacked and has been since day one. Curious to know what gear everyone rides in at various mph's? 35-45-55-60-70 etc. 117/6 speed here.

I can tell you at 70 I'm in 5th cruising at about 3000 rpm on my Mastiff.
My ridgeback cruising around the same speed and gear I'm around 3500 rpm.
I usually go into 6th gear at 75 if I'm going to be cruising for long distances at that speed.

I would say to keep from lugging the engine I never went into 6th until 65/70 plus. If I was just running around 55/60 mph I was in fifth. Dropping down below 55 would start thinkin about 4th. Lugging is bad on the engine and low RPM's isn't good for tthe oil pressure either. Its tough with no tach but you don't want to be below 2500 RPM's when pullin.

SKOGDOG

One of the old ones.
I tore up my transmission bearings riding at too low rpm's, especially in 6th, figuring to save gas and maybe run cooler. Bad idea. These 117's are just too powerful. The torque has nowhere to go except to the bearings...good thing we caught it before it spun a bearing in the transmission case.
Poorer and wiser, these days that Dog runs 3000rpm and over...don't care what gear..it stays 3k+. Full throttle only in first and second...
Transmission seems happy too......

I didn't say that,

I have been over 83 MPH. What I am trying to say is that the speed is 83 MPH at 3000 RPM. I have been to 125 plus MPH on a few occassions!

I read somewhere on the S&S Website they recommend running these at 3k all day. They wish everyone ran them like that they say they last longer.

Anyways I run mine at crusing 60-65 in 4th right around 3k RPM. I don't shift until 5th until 68-70, and I RARELY use 6th unless hauling ass on the highway 80+ for a ways.

Ride it like you stole it!

Yep, I had to take a leak! It seems so easy to do 100 to 110 without much effort. What's amassing is being on a Ridgeback! I did notice recently that a jacket and full face helmet makes it easier on the body. Without them, my old body flaps in the wind!

Huw

I am trying to stay below 135 so I don't have to break out the Daytona 675 and do 155 so I can still say my 675 is my quickest bike!
