Gas cap and the paint saver......WTF??????
Alright guys, tell what the deal is with 04 BD 2 piece tanks.
Over the last 6 months or so the right side gas cap (which is the side that had the vent mechanism that I removed) had been harder and harder to loosen when I need fuel. The black rubber or nylon piece seems to have expanded to the point where it is very difficult to unscrew. I used a light layer of lube and that helped a bit for a while. Yesterday, the SOB was stuck but good (I really do not tighten it down that much???) and as I finally got it to turn, the entire assembly unscrewed from the tank, cap and paint saver. The rubber seal looks like hell and there seems to be some kind of rubberized glue or some crap that was sealing the paint saver to the tank. Now, what is the best course of action on this? Epoxy or JB Weld it back in? Have the dealer do something with it? Thanks!
