Fyi. Some owners with the TP top end have had no issues. It’s like a Monday/Friday thing. Your bike may have been put together on a Wednesday and you won’t have any issues. One of those bummer deals. But that you have a option to fix the problem before it happens is pretty cool.Holy stinking guano Batman. Thank you for the huge heads up John. Sorry for calling you Mick, I was a little baffled by all the responses. I don’t know how I missed this issue in my research. Seeing as my bike isn’t even broken in yet it is now parked until I figure this out. Poor rocker alignment and cheap valve guides is a huge red flag for me. Thanks John for having the cojones to bring it up.
Thanks Chubs that’s exactly what the counterman at O’Reilly said. I would like to share with you what I found while testing today. The superstart is 310 CCA battery with unlisted amp hours. after a full charge with my very expensive battery charger it came up to 13 V. After 10 seconds on my load tester it read 12.5 V. The drag specialties battery is rated at 320 CCA and 21.1 amp hours. After sitting in the bike all day It registered 13.3 V. After 10 seconds on the load tester it read 12.8 V. After two minutes it rose to 13.1 V by itself. Seems to me I already have the better battery. And the drag specialties battery was made in Wisconsin 09/21. The super start was made 09/22. If you don’t mind what do you make up all that? For what its worth, Super Start batteries are made by the same company that makes Deka batteries, East Penn mfg. Same volts, same 310cca. You might as well keep the Orielly's battery since you already have it.
Thank you for the reply Mick. looks like I have to do an inspection.Fyi. Some owners with the TP top end have had no issues. It’s like a Monday/Friday thing. Thanks John I did the research you suggested. It absolutely does not sound like fun. But this would be the time to know wouldn’t it?When it happens, it's expensive. You may get a small head start on it, by taking the top rocker cover off, then the rocker arm off,(pain in the ass), and see that the IMPRINT from the rocker arm roller is hitting the valve stem on center.

Ahhh, parts is parts. Take loads of pics. They will come in handy during reassembly. Even if ya think ya dont need em, take em.Thanks guru. Changing out the tubes sounds a lot funner than tearing those heads apart.
Aargh, the machine is just a sum of it’s parts matey. Just stick your arm in there. No, the arm with the fingers.Ahhh, parts is parts. Take loads of pics. They will come in handy during reassembly. Even if ya think ya dont need em, take em.
I have a question for you three wise men. The chopper officially has 3020 miles. If I yank those rocker boxes off do you think there would be enough wear for me to adequately judge the rocker alignment? Thanks John I did the research you suggested. It absolutely does not sound like fun. But this would be the time to know wouldn’t it?
Wrong mothers you want mothers billet polishI plan on doing the front forks this winter if I can gain enough confidence. I’ll be rebuilding the rear brake caliper soon. I polished one side of the front wheel with turtle wax polishing compound and it came out real shiny. I did the rear fender supports with this mothers stuff and came out kind of dull. Someone mentioned the cc purple metal polish. Might try it. View attachment 105881
That's not the EHC that is the ignition module from Thunder heart and those 3 connections are correct. What else is in your battery tray, see what someone put in there. That last picture with three plugs on pigtails is how the EHC attaches to the harness.
Is the low beam good? Did you replace it with an LED or HID light? Some early HID's at least didn't draw enough power so the EHC made the mistake of thinking the bulb was out and switched to hi-beam so you weren't without lights. The high beam comes on and stays on but the low beam won’t come back on till I restart and then goes back off. I’ll try to find the EHC again when I get home. Thank you.
