Fuel Pump raising Cane

I have a 07 Bulldog EFI. After returning from Garden of the Gods in Illinois to Tennessee my fuel pump was roaring like crazy when the fuel was low. Never made any noise before when the level got low. Does it all the time now. When about 2.5-3.0 gallons are gone you can hear it like crazy roaring or whatever. When you hit the run switch and the fuel pump runs, the last second or two when it loads up it makes the roaring noise. Any idea's what has happened? Bike has 9,800 miles now. Started about 8,500 miles after the long ride running at interstate speeds for a few hours....
Is the filter clogged up inside or the pump failing? Is there a gasket I need to purchase before opening up the tank or does it need to be coated again. I assume you pull the tank and there will be a access panel on the inside to get to the pump. Thanks for any info up front...

Not familiar with the EFI pump but would hope that you post all the procedures here for the next time it comes up if it does.

Hope it's not to much of a hassle.

07 Bike should be warranty work when you get the 10k service? If its as loud as you describe the shop should be concerned as well...then watch, take pics then post'm up...not to much efi info around yet...

Warranty or no warranty going to do the work myself. Not worth my effort to take it to a shop around here. My bike. If I find something that needs BDM attention I will give them a courtesy call and tell them what I found and pics if they want them.
I will document all the work and post it here anyway. I did the last service anyway and will try and to continue to do all my work with help when needed.:2thumbs:

Another round please
I think the EFI has alot of inherent problems. Tim on here just bought a 08 k9 and is already having his issues with the fuel pump not working at all, comes and goes when it wants. Carbs all the way.

Alright, here is the verdict so far.
Got tired of hearing the pump sounding like it was loading up when the fuel was down a couple of gallons and when it primed up.
I took the bike down to troubleshoot the speedometer why it no longer registers speed and millage.
I pulled the tank to check the signal wire connections for the speedometer under the tank and decided to open the tank while I had it off and check out the pump setup and filter. It has a O ring for a seal so I said it should be good to go on the closure.
Here is what I found inside and stuck all around the fuel filter pickup. It is the sealant BDM uses to seal the tanks on the inside. I think they should spend a little more money on these bikes and nickel plate the insides.
I can see where this would be a issue try to tune out the bike while it is starving itself of fuel. I have always ran BP Premium for what it is worth.
For your info gents.....

Yep... a common problem with many bikes. There is a kit.. I can find out for ya... that you can buy, you throw in a chemical and some marbles (count them before puting in), shake and pour out to remove all the lining. Then pour in new epoxy...

Neil, I would definately send those pics to BDM. Address them to Anne Dixon or Richard Remero using the standard CS email.
My bike is a bit older than yours and my paint saver ring just came loose with all the epoxy stuff falling into the tank. They used a lot of that goo on the ring!

Ok Raywood,
It is a good idea to let them know anyway.
I will do that for sure.
Thanks for the suggestion......
Now let me take a shot in the dark here. Are carb bike gas tanks coated or only EFI bikes due to them not wanting slag getting into the injectors?
Thanks for any info as always,
Neil

My 05 is coated so would suspect all models are coated. When I do my tank mod I will be having it nickle plated on the inside.

Neil my bike is an 04 and I have pulled that same shit off my fuel filter (one on the petcock) several times but nothing like what you have. I just had a some much smaller flakes.

Ray,
I did follow up on your suggestion of sending the pics to customer service. Basically just cut and posted my first two post and told them for your info asking nothing from them.
That same afternoon a couple of days ago, Bob from customer service called me and said they did not like what they seen in the pictures. Said they were going to send me a new tank to replace it with. Said they could rework mine but did not want me to incur any down time. Wow, what could I say. I told him that is what I liked about Big Dog. Asked if they were going to send it complete with a new fuel pump in it seeing how I think this one has been compromised. Said he would check on it and make it happen.
He also told me they no longer use that process to coat the tanks and this one would be with the new process.
Big Dog called my wife today saying it had been coated with the new process and was being sent to the paint department.
Big Dog did this out of the blue on there own reputation.
Guys, I got to say thanks very much to Big Dog for standing behind their product when nothing is asked from them.
This is not the first time they have gone out of their way to make my bike right in their eyes when I had issues.........
Thanks again BDM Corporation :2thumbs:

Got a call from R&B Cycles in Nashville today that the tank BDM sent me came in....Thanks BDM Corporation for your efforts in customer satisfaction.
I will go by in a few days and pick it up. Suppose to rain Friday so it is a good candid for a car ride....
Big Dog offered to change it out to keep me from having any down time riding. I did not ask anything of them, they did this on their own....
Thanks again
Neil

I have installed the tank which was complete and all the racket and roaring noise has stopped. Yea...
The tank is now rattling though. I guess I will have to pull it and check the rubber grommets on the front. It is the front of the tank that is rattling or shaking side to side and up and down it seems.
The new cap is different also. Seems really light compared to the old one. The old one seemed like a piece of billet and the new on seems like a chrome coated piece of plastic???
Soon enough I will have the bike parked for winter stuff to happen
Thanks BDM for the tank...:2thumbs:
