I wondered about that too Harry. I wasn't sure what to do with the boot on the hand control. It doesn't have that lip for the boot to go into the way the foot control does. I ruined one boot trying to get it down in the hole. I ended up just leaving the boot outside the hole. I figure it will seal off the cylinder when you pull the brake lever. That's been about 6 or 7 years ago and haven't had any problems so far.Ok folks, got a question. Is there a trick to seating the rubber boot on the front master cylinder? Got it all tore down n cleaned up easily enough, replaced all the internals, but the boot dont wanna slip in the hole?View attachment 104577
Thought the same thing but the plastic plunger pushes in the cylinder and the washer and snap ring will push down to the bottom of the groove. Its one wide groove about .250 deep. Seems as tho the boot was in the groove as it pulled out kinda tough. It was for sure in that groove. I did what Matt said. Set it there and pushed the rod thru it. Its not gonna fall out unless it rips apart. Oh well the front brakes finally work properly so one rubber boot aint gonna make much diff. Thanks for all the replies! It been a long time since I had one of those apart. Are you sure there isn't two grooves in the housing one for the snapping and one for the boot?
