forks service

Hey guys I broke 10,000 on my 08 Mastiff (stock front end) and am looking to service my front forks. Seals are definitely leaking. I've looked over the how to thread (even constructed my makeshift pvc tool to bang in the new seals) and have my service manual ready to go. Now my question is what kit do I need. Is it your standard 41 mm kit that harley sells which includes the upper bushings, dust cap spacer, dust cap seal, and retaining clip, or is there more I need to do. I plan on disasembling the whole thing. Is there any other seal I need to replace (i.e. damper tube seal). Also planning on using 20w oil also. I see all these kits on the J&P website and elsewhere. Just need guidance with the proper kit to make sure I change everything. The trees will be coming off and while I am at it going to change the neck bearings also. Anyone have a bearing of choice or part number. Before I call around for these parts I would like to hear what bigdogbikers have to say. Thanks in advance.

there should be (4) bushings total, (2) upper and (2) lower teflon coated brass. last time i did mine i put in 20wt. but next time i will go back to 30 wt. 20 is a little too light weight and spongy when you hit a bump. don't get me wrong, it rides smooth but it doesn't absorb the hit as well as 30. make sure the old bushings didn't cut grooves into the inside of the tubes, you should be able to tell by the looks of the old bushings if all the teflon is gone. i found that the bushings were right at their end at around 8500miles.

I recently did mine and used the standard 41mm kit that HD sells. I went with the heavier oil also.

Ditto with Raywood.

Make sure u tape up the grooves on the fork tubes before sliding the bushing on so you do not cut them. Last time I did mine I think I slid them down from the top of the fork tube with a little WD40 for lube. It will leak if you don't.
